Is Charlie Sheen a Martyr?

Will Charlie become a martyr if and when something happens to him?

The media, TV, news, and "celebrity" has created Charlie. He has nearly always protrayed himself on the large and small screen, because the people writing the checks made money to write the checks off the "characterization" he's played.

If he dies. Will the public finally draw the line after his death that we are fed up of losing our favorite celebrities because the powers that be make more money for their self-destruction and self-promotion?

Whether or not you agree or support Charlie Sheen, he hasn't lied, he hasn't hid behind anything. He's let himself out there in all his "glory" and self-depracation. He does have his moments of truth and undeniable, "That's so right!" that we find ourselves wishing we wouldn't agree with. (And why? Are we afraid to align ourselves with radicalism, align ourselves with something that is out of the accepted norms - god forbid like Islam?)

And Charlie admits that "Two and a Half Men" is circular. They write stories off him and he acts his life (paraphrasing this). So the executives, writers, studios and public sees the charm, the connection, the acceptability and the $$$. Do what's easy and what the "actor" won't shy from to be "famous."

But if we lose Charlie will the public draw the line - we're sick and tired of losing famous/infamous celebrities because of the media and public misconception - like Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson, (god forbid Lindsay Lohan, I mean she isn't THAT bad of an actress), Kurt Cobain, Corey Haim, Elvis Presely, Marilyn Monroe, Brittany Murphy, Jim Morrison, Judy Garland, Janis Joplin, John Belushi, Jimi Hendrix, to name just a few.

Will Charlie be the turning point for what the definition of "Celebrity" should be?

Hollywood doesn't push Charlie Sheen to drink, do drugs, and womanize. He's a partier and has never grown up. His children are martyrs.

martyr? whack job... unfortunately appears to be headed that way - and it was most certainly fueled by the greed of the studio... it was sure amusing to them (studio) for how many years? and when sheen 'tired' of it, did they? no, (as noted) they wrote more of the same - never asked for more, realistically the studio asked for less. there have been plenty of comedies that tackled serious issues - the studio passed the buck on this one... it is interesting that cryer (who i like(d)) and others have kept there mouths shut... why is that? job (reputation) safety... $$$
martyr, no; used, abused and kicked to the curb for corporate (studio) $$$ - most definitely...
another corporate culture - a select few making $$$ off the sick (mentally), and unwilling to stand up and take accountability for their actions, and stand behind their 'man'.

It may not "push" him or any other celebrity to do such self-destructive and rude things, but being in such an industry does take its toll on these celebrities and it indirectly affects their well being in the most negative of ways. Yes, he is a grown man and should be responsible for his actions, just like anyone else, but in this case, these bad elements got to the best of him and these things aren't so easy to overcome as one would hope.

He may be being his true self, but what exactly are the objectively 'true' things you think he's said? I mean, he is bum buddies with Alex Jones, leader of the tin-foil hat brigade. In one of his rants, he went out of his way to call one of the Two and a Half crew by their Jewish name, which just stinks of a baseless racist conspiracy theory (much like conservatives accent Obama's middle name). What is he trying to insinuate by doing that? Ask Alex Jones. When it comes down to it, the guy is a nut with a history of violent behaviour, and should be locked up somewhere to protect himself and society. Rehab apparently isn't working, that's for sure.

He's the one who is self-destructing. The media is tracking it. He needs help, and not just that, he needs to accept it and change. I don't see him as radical, I see him as self-indulgent. He's not just hurting himself, he's hurting his family and friends, which is where the martyrdom stops. The media is a monster, and it's amplifying his flaws, but he created his mess, no one else is to blame
