  • Why Do We Love Community? Donald Glover and Levar Burton.

Even from its very first episode, Community has been a show that does many things very well. Beyond the acting, it manages to weave in some of the best pop culture references of any sitcom I've ever seen (with a close second being Scrubs).

In this particular episode alone, 'Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking', Community managed to fit in one of the most awesome references ever, and then turn it into an awesome plot point. Troy is a big fan of actor Levar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Reading Rainbow, Roots), but is the type of fan that can only handle his adoration from afar. So when Levar actually shows up to meet Troy (through Pierce's machinations), Troy's panicked reaction is absolutely perfect. Explaining it isn't much fun, though - so watch the clip! Or if you're even more intrigued, head over to Hulu and watch the whole episode for free.

A few other fun references from this episode:

-It was shot entirely in mockumentary style, a la The Office
-Made a dig at the Bruce Willis movie 'Surrogates'
-Referenced the unfair cancellation of Joss Whedon's sci-fi series 'Firefly'.

Do you watch Community? Have a favorite moment?
