You know him, there’s one of them in every crew. He’s the guy that sensationalizes his life so he can be a step ahead of you. If you’re unfamiliar with the One-Upper, chances are you may be him.
Ah, the One-Upper...yep, he’s “that guy”. A person could be simply telling the story of how their day went and the tactical One-Upper will figure some way to include himself into the story. Everyone notices it but they just continue on. Eventually he one-ups you so many times that you can’t continue with your story and allow him to take over.
The One-Upper will do anything to be the center of attention including, but not limited to saying the same exact thing you just finished saying and making it sound like your own thought. Kind of like Zach Galifianakis’ “Alan” character did in The Hangover.
There are many types of One-Uppers but the worst one has to be the sports One-Upper. That is a brutal guy. He is the guy that knows it all. He will pound you with sports facts until you find a reason to leave. Women One-Uppers do exist but every woman tries to one up each other so that cancels that argument out.
Are you familiar with a one-upper in your group of friends?
