I'm Thinking About Getting a Tougue Piercing
This is for both men and women in the Xanga community. I need some advice. I'm debating getting my tongue pierced but need to know a bit more about it.
This is a big step for me. I've never had any piercings or tattoos at all, except for those Power Rangers kinds that faded the second that our super competitive roller hockey matches began to induce perspiration.
I'm not clean-cut by any means, I generally am unshaven and have my hair grown out pretty long, and I don't dress particularly well. But, still, I've never had an aspect of my appearance that particularly stood out or was abnormal. But, now that I'm getting set to move into NYC I feel like I need to find a way to proudly display my inner-"freak."
I work at a restaurant with a lot of gay males as coworkers. One of them has his tongue pierced, and when I asked him if I should do it he replied, "Yeah you'll give much better head!"
This got me kinda worried; are people going to assume I'm gay because I have my tongue pierced? I'm not homophobic at all, it's just a big reason for doing this is because I hope it will increase my success with women and just attract more attention to myself when I go out.
From what I hear, females also can get plenty of enjoyment from a tongue piercing. And, based on what I learned in health class, it seems anatomically certain that a tongue ring would effectively increase sexual stimulation during foreplay. (See how practical sex Ed. is when it's not abstinence-only?) It could also be a fun addition to any make out session.
But, I'm worried about the negative things I'll have to deal with. How much does it cost, and what's the procedure like? What's it like eating after it gets pierced? What meals do you recommend in the few subsequent days? How long does it take to get used to? What sort of maintenance is necessary? And has anyone had a bad experience? (I don't want to end up like the guy in Rat Race).
And, most importantly: ladies, what goes through your mind when you see a dude with his tongue pierced?
Guys and girls alike, I need some info and advice!

go for it. I think theyre awesome.
my boyfriend wants one too. when i heard about it, i was surprised! i didn't know guys would want their tongues pierced. at my h.s., the standard uniform for a girl was belly piercing, tongue piercing, and dyed hair, so i always thought of it as a girl thing. i can't wait to read the comments about this. someone please tell me that this is common and im just out of the loop!
I think it's pretty gay for a guy, and it will definitely not increase your success with women.
I feel like this is one of three posts, that leads to you coming out in blog form. First it's this post. Then is something like, "I went out with this guy last night and really enjoyed myself." Finally, it's the "It's official, I bang dudes... And I love it." But hey, to each his own. Be loud, be proud homeboy.
If you do get your tongue pierced..expect to follow a lot of rules or else get infections ..yikes
It's like.... $20 usually. It doesn't hurt--- it just feels weird. I mean, someone's in your fckng tongue. I got mine pierced at 12 and removed at 15 (my mom is a hippie and wanted me to express myself and deal with the consequences.) You might chip a lot of teeth. I chipped one of my molars in fckng half and stopped wearing it. I friggin love my teeth.
Unless you're extremely manly or listen to alternative bands (if I said AND instead of or, it would be quite the oxymoron,) then you'll come off as a gay fish. Mine ripped a few times when I was being careless. I still have my tongue-indention from the ring and I don't think it'll ever go away. Not so bad, though. I don't care. My friend drank soda and milk right after she got hers done and her hole was green and nasty. :-\ don't do it.@mdongivin - lulz
i just think tongue piercings are trashy, period, regardless of sex. i find them extremely unattractive and i find that the people who get them are generally unattractive also (although, that could just be where I live, i'm sure that's not everywhere...)
it's one of those things that if i saw an attractive guy with his tongue pierced, i'd have to give a second thought to whether or not he was straight or if he was worth getting to know. but what do i know? i have two holes in my nose and a hole in my belly button.
do whatcha want and what you think will look good. watch some videos on how they pierce it, research extensively, and go visit a good, clean, and proper piercing place and talk to the piercer about it. they'll be super nice and explain everything in great detail. it may cost a lot, but the more it costs (generally) the better it will be pierced. make sure to follow the aftercare to a T! when i got my belly button pierced (which is very unlike the tongue, but takes very long to heal and has to be taken care of strictly), i didn't follow most of the instructions and it got super infected and super annoying to have. you don't want to make an investment to have it get infected and have to take it out. total waste of money!
i hope my ranting helped a little bit :)
i think, oh, in a few years his teeth are gonna look like crap.
whatever floats your boat!
No, people will not assume you're gay. But don't count on it to improve oral sex... it gets more in the way than anything. In fact... my SO who has had his pierced for years actually takes his OUT before oral sex.
Uhhh. I worked as a piercer for a bit.. and I've had probably 50 different ones over the years (most of which I've taken out) and this is my experience/advice:
Cost can range from $10-$120 LOL. It depends on where you go.
The procedure is simple... swishy stuff, wipe down, clamp it, put a needle through, pull the needle out while sliding your barbell in. You CAN feel it go through... but it's not a painful sensation.Eating after it gets pierced can be a challenge because of swelling... which you should use ibuprofen and not ice for. If you're sucking on ice, you're using your tongue... which you should be resting. ;PMeals for the next few days: I found warm things like broths/soups were very soothing and felt good. But I think I also went to wendy's and had nuggets and fries the next day with no issues. LOL.It takes everyone a different amount of time to get used to... a week, maybe? Once swelling goes does, ect you should be fine.Don't smoke, clean it periodically, but don't bust out the Listerine every ten minutes or you'll kill off all the good bacteria in your mouth as well. If you have any questions/problems... go back in and see your piercer!
No real maintenance necessary after healing. Take it out and clean it every now and again. Make sure to periodically tighten the balls.
Negative experience... I got a second hole added, decided quickly that I didn't like it and took it out before it healed... It got a little nasty/infected but cleared up on it's own within a week.
sounds like you're doing it for the wrong reasons. "to stand out" "to get girls" "to improve oral sex". none of those apply just because you have a tongue piercing.
but if you really want one for YOURSELF, then do it. i've had mines for 3 years now.. hurted like hell when they pierced it....couldn't eat for 5 days! starvingggg... couldn't talk either. but after that healing process, i love it. cost me $60 i think?
i got my tongue pierced when i was 15 and then again when i was 18. i'd recommend going to st. marks (east village, by astor place on the 6 train) in any of the tattoo/piercing parlors and it's 30 bucks. no more, no less.
it definitely is a bit difficult to eat because of the swelling. you'll talk kind of stupid as well for a few days. COLD drinks and soft foods will be your friend. once the swelling goes down, you can eat regular, just make sure you clean it religiously.
dont drink, dont smoke and no hanky panky (including making out) for a week. totally disobeyed all of these rules the second time i got pierced and i developed an abscess (aka the most disgusting thing ever...imagine going to the dentist and getting it drained..lol anyway)
i don't think guys with tongue piercings are particularly attractive or appealing, but i just grew out of that phase in my life lol
oh, the head thing is true fyi ahaha GOOD LUCK!
if you really want something cool, check out septum piercings...my favorite one !
I asked my ex (while we were seeing each other) what he would think if I got my tongue pierced and he approximated a quote from chris rock- "If you see a girl and she has a tongue ring she'll probably give you a blow job... if you see a guy and he has a tongue ring he'll probably give you a blow job"
so unless you want Chris Rock to make assumptions and take liberties with your mouth . ..
The medical problems that you can have from getting your tongue pierced can actually be pretty severe. Besides chipping and cracking teeth, you can wear away your gums and expose parts of your teeth that are not supposed to be exposed. In order to fix this, they will have to take skin from the back of your soft pallet and surgically graft it where the tissue wore away. It's painful and not very cheap. Is it worth risking your oral health to try and look a little edgier and perform differently sexually?
uhmmmm.. I've had my tounge pierced three times, and no not all at once and no i don't have three tounge piercings just the same thing done over and over again. I personally love my tounge ring i mean it does feel weird eating and talking with it but once you get used to it its like its not even there anymore and the swelling kinda blows but if you want it bad enough you'll deal. it's pretty awesome in my opinion :3
I personally think it's a turn off. I'm not clean cut by any means either but tongue piercings just make me cringe.
@miiszcam@xanga - i have my septum pierced! i swear it was the best decision i've ever made. i LOVE it.
@design3rskyline@xanga - i've had mine twice >.< i wanna get it again sooon it's seriously the coolest/hottest piercing lol
As Chris Rock once said, "If a girl has a pierced tongue, she'll probably suck your dick. If a guy has a pierced tongue, he'll probably suck your dick."
Take that for what it's worth.
I wouldn't assume a person is trashy or gay just because of a piercing. The people saying that are completely ignorant. If you want it, go for it.
Not a fan of tongue piercings on dudes. Just my opinion.
My first boyfriend had his tongue pierced, making out with him was weird, like i'd forget he had it until RIGHT THEN lol, I don't think it made his um, oral skills any better either :p
Idk, I think they're pretty cool but I am kind of obsessed with piercings and tattoos so of course I would think it's cool. I'd say if you want to, and you're willing to put in the effort to keep it infection-free, then go for it. The only thing I would say is that mouth-area piercings are kind of a pain in the ass to take care of. I got a double lip piercing about a year ago and while I loved the way it looked, I took it out because they were such a pain to take care of and hit my teeth a lot.
@HeLLo_Bianca@xanga - I agree; people who make assumptions about character or sexual orientation based on piercings are, in my opinion, being pretty damn shallow.
