  • Obama isn’t a Christian? Who Cares?

Lots of media coverage has been dedicated to President Barak Obama’s citizenship and religious orientation. The state of Hawaii claims the President and even provided proof that he was born in the state.

Obama, himself has said that he is a Christian but the Tea Party is always questioning him.

The perspective of this article is neither Republican nor Democrat, those party’s sometimes represent anti-common sense ideologies. But speaking from a totally neutral perspective, why is he even questioned about such things?

It is law that any organization in this country cannot discriminate on religion, among other things. But it seems like just bringing up the subject is discriminant enough. Lets just say Barak Obama was Muslim, why is it an issue? Doesn’t that go against what this country was built on?

It is very trendy to hate Muslim people nowadays so I understand (but don't condone it), but if any one of us ever said anything about religion at work we would be canned in a second. The point is not to talk shit about people’s beliefs and ancestry. It’s just unnecessary and un-American.

John McCain served in Vietnam, the most opposed and protested war in the history of the United States yet no one ever questioned if he could lead us.  Some mentioned his age during the election, which is just as discriminatory as mentioning religion as a deterrent to become president.

Usually concern, fear, hatred, etc. are feelings that arise when one doesn’t understand that person.  So maybe that’s the reason Republicans and Democrats attack a person’s belief, race, age, sexual orientation, handicap and anything else.

There is no arena that can socially bash a person’s religion and/or race except the arena of politics and that of comedy.

So why do you feel Republicans and Democrats think it ‘s fine to attack their opponents in such personal ways?

My age discrimination in John McCain's case wasn't because of his age in particular.  If he died in office, we'd be left with Palin.  His age was a legitimate concern under the circumstances.

For those of you who think Obama is a Muslim, refer to this video please: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jQ67cdzDyI

  • Aaliyaan@xanga

Good God, Obama and the Muslim debate again? Really? Obama is as much of a Muslim as John McCain is.

    @thepsychoticraccoon@xanga - Awesome video.
  • wildchildofthebluemoon@xanga

I could really care less what religion he is, and I don't think anyone should care. There are many more important issues to focus on.  I would, however, LOVE it if he was in fact  Muslim...or atheist.  Why would I love it? Just because the majority would hate it.  Religious tolerance, people!

  • lonelystrangergirl@xanga

@wildchildofthebluemoon@xanga - I second that. I wish he WERE a Muslim so he could rub it in all of the crazies' faces.

  • proana_emokitty666@xanga

    You, sir, are great.

I've been wondering myself why religion matters. This country was founded in part on religious freedom, but some people don't seem to realize that doesn't only apply to Christianity.

  • LoBornlytesThoughtPalace@xanga

Actually the State of Hawaii was NOT able to provide a birth certificate for Obama even though Governor Abercrombie made an ass out of himself trying.

The Tea Party has no interest in Obama's birth certificate or his religion. We are concerned with his disastrous policies.

And so should you. The Obama deficit this year will be $1.65 TRILLION.

  • Liquid_Pain_523@xanga

Because it works. People are convinced by this bullshit.

Also, mudslinging is a political strategy to alienate the center. If they hate both of the candidates, they don't vote. Then you don't have to worry about that uncertainty.
  • obamawatch@xanga

One he is a Christian, he attended the church of Black Liberation Theology.

The reason why the rumors presist about his place of birth is because he has not come out and put them down. He has not come out and produced his actual birth certificate.  Others have, but he did not tackle the problem head on. He let the conspiracy take root, and then it took on a life of his own. There are a vocal few Tea Party who suppoort the birther idea, but the vast majority does not.  Having been to rallies and listened to people who attended them i can say that fairly confedently. Now the issue of him being a muslim is a mixed one, and can go either way depending on the rally.

People attack one anothers personality when their arguments are weak. President Obama and Senator McCain are both progressives, so it is hard for them to stand out from their oppent. So they go on the Attack. President Obama's a kenyan, McCain is Old, blah blah blah. It comes down to neither was able to, or willing to run on their record, so they ran against each others personailities.

Just curious how many people here think President Obama is in fact a Keynesian?

The Issue of Palin was brought up and I would like to address that. While I do not always support things she says, I have to say I laugh when people say she cost McCain the election.  She no more hurt McCain than Biden hurt Obama.  People going after Palin for intellegence need to take a goo long look at Vice President Biden as well.  In that case the two cancled each other out.

  • Lordv16@xanga

"Yes Obama is a muslim. OBAMA. OSAMA. Are you freaking kidding me?"

A new yorker's argument while we were arguing in the train station.

Apparently rhymes dictate who you are as a person.

  • mynameisblueskye@xanga

Ignorance. One one major side starts fucking up, everyone gets blamed for it. Much like a Nazi or a racist's belief about black people. Now, that a black president all of a sudden disturbed the natural order, people continue to be in the guy's grill and question his citizenship and religion. Simply, those who even give a care must be the simplest of the simple-minded.

  • obamawatch@xanga

@Lordv16@xanga - there is a lot of truth behind that.  I remeber people saying "bush lied people died" and that was supposed to end the argument. They don't know any details behind the statment, they just use that to sound like they know what they are talking about. It is a talking point they have heard a thousand times, and the more times they hear it the more it must be true.  I think some people are too quick to be drawn in by snappy slogans, they tend to be the most entertaining to watch so they get the most media attention.

@mynameisblueskye@xanga - I have a question,  you said at the end of your comment Simply those who even give a care must be the simplest of the simple-minded.  What are you refering to there? Are you saying that just people who care about his religion are simplest of the simple minded or are you including people who care whether or not President Obama is a legal citizen are simple minded?

  • mynameisblueskye@xanga

@obamawatch@xanga - The former. If Obama was a Muslim, I wouldn't give a care. There are plenty of black Muslims in America, and none of them are like whomever destroyed the towers. Blaming people by their race, religion and anything they don't have an iota of a clue about only shows their true colors and that they aren't to be trusted. After all, last I heard, there were American Terrorists that are the color of George Bush himself.

I'm not really a religious man. I prefer to watch people pray or express themselves from the sidelines, just to see what people have done right or wrong. So far, it seems that everyone is using any small thing to say that Obama isn't really fit for anything. With this going on, I can understand why the presideny is getting problematic for the guy.

As for the legal citizen thing, that should have been dismissed long ago when Arnold Schwartzenegger, who wasn't born in America, was a California governor. The favct that they are trying that bull with Obama just reeks of silliness.

  • obamawatch@xanga

@mynameisblueskye@xanga - okay well it makes more sense then. I could see that comment working either way.  I am with you I don't care if he is a muslim, or black. I don't like him because of his policies. The race factor is irrelevant so long as he stands for equal protection under the law of the United States.

However the legal citizen issue, while you are right that is should have dissappeared a long time ago, the reference to Arnold Schwartzenegger is irrelevant.  You don't have to be born in the country to be a senator, representative, and depending on the individual states consitution as far as I am aware there are no limits on birth place placed upon an individual. However to become President Of the United States, it is required by the Consitution that to become President one must have been born in the United States. Well Unless they were born before the consitution was adopted, but that was in 1789 so i doubt that will become an issue.

  • mrqtran@xanga

wtheck?? i didnt know that. but isnt this a nation under god?

  • ThaPlatinumOne@xanga

This country was founded on religious freedom right?  Well, that is AFTER we raped, pillaged, and plundered the land from the Indians.

Maybe that's the politician's way of trying to "relate" to the "common folk" by preying on our fear for the different?  Maybe that's their way of trying to distract us from the real political issues?  Maybe that's the only negative thing they can find about him to focus on and make him look as if he is unfit?

I know that my dad used to tell me that there was a lot of controversy over the fact that President Kennedy was a Catholic and not a Baptist.  Who cares!  Who cares what name you call God.  Jah, God, Allah, it all means God in a different language.  The doctrine itself may be different, but the God is still the same.

Yes, President Obama IS a Christian.  His father was Muslim.  Even if he was Muslim, what does it matter?  As long as he wasn't trying to force his beliefs on the country, then I don't care.  Just run the country the best way you can.  His policies aren't going to make everyone happy, but you can't make everyone happy.  At least he is trying to change some of these ass-backward policies that have been in place for so long that we think it's okay.  Do I agree with EVERYTHING he says?  Not always.  But that's what's great about being an individual.  We can have our own opinions.  He is trying to change policies to make better ones.  They might not work right away, but what comes instantly will also leave instantly.  He is making an effort, and a good one.  It's not easy to run an entire COUNTRY.  And for that, I commend him and respect him.

  • Luxior@xanga

if he was muslim.. shouldnt his wife be wearing a head covering? I mean it would only make sense for her to cover more since she is widely shown in the media. But oh well.. I have a friend whose muslim and is actually afraid to wear the head cover.. its amazing what the media can do to a person.

  • xXHiyonoXx@xanga

Bah! He is no more Christain..dont knwo what fool would believe that.

  • xFgtxRainbowx@xanga

Honestly...I'm a democrat, and I honestly don't think it matters what religion Obama is (Or any president for that matter) as long as they are good at their job, and try to do the best for America. I think that's basically the only thing that matters.

  • XXVl@xanga

I really hope he isn't a christian. I hope he isn't anything.  Religious folk are nutcases.

  • rafi09@xanga

Agreed, no one should care. Our founders gave us freedom of religion for a reason and saying that the President should be Christian even though we are at our roots a secular nation. And the "birther" debate is inane as well. Just because they didn't like the form Hawaii gave as proof (it is a birth certificate, just not called that since they have two versions), they still bring that up. I hate it. It is a piece of paper saying that he was born in Hawaii on that day and I'm sure it even had the doctor's name on it (it's been a while since I looked at it). If that's not enough proof, then there are a lot of people in Hawaii who aren't citizens either.

Ugh....I hate it when politics goes beyond what's important or when people refuse to accept facts.
  • agnophilo@xanga

They can't call him a nigger so they call him everything else.

It's hard to tell if it's racism, ethnocentrism and xenophobia on the part of some pundits and politicians, or if they're just trying to appeal to racism and ethnocentrism and xenophobia to win a political victory.  I suspect it's a combination of both.

  • mantiXcore@xanga

Dude, if he says he's a Christian, he is, and doesn't matter what anyone else says.  Religion is a personal thing, and he is whatever he identifies himself as.  Also, I'm a member of the "Tea Party", and I assure you, that is not my attitude, and I don't know any other tea-partiers whose it is.  Some closed-minded right-wing-ists might think he's a Muslim, but he's not, and it wouldn't matter if he were.

  • TrekkieECH@xanga

@obamawatch@xanga - Actually, as least as far as myself, I was on the fence until McCain chose Palin as his running mate. That's what made me decide definitively to vote for Obama.

  • obamawatch@xanga

@mantiXcore@xanga - it is the view of the tea party that memeber who can't be found except when a poll is conducted. Its the secret ones, who are actually running things in the shadows, they are most likely in league with the legion of doom.

@TrekkieECH@xanga - Yes there are people who didn't vote for McCain because of Palin, but there are also people who didn't vote for President Obama because of Biden. I know for me, Biden was a huge turn off.

@agnophilo@xanga - just curious which pundits specifically are seriously accusing him of being a muslim? You know me I am always looking for more information on an issue.
