The survival horror series Dead Space has just released its second installment, and as part of its marketing campaign, created a series of ads like the one you see above.
And while they're sort of humorous, some might find it a bit disturbing. After all, when you play a video game, especially a scary or mature one, your mother is the last person you want judging the game, right? That's the point of the videos, I suppose: your mom will disapprove of this game, and that's why you should like it.
Still, it seems almost harsh to subject these mothers to something that is meant to be terrifying. But, tell me what you think:
Do the Dead Space 2 ads go too far, or are they a suitable way to advertise the game?
My job is merchandising video games in three Wal Marts. We had a midnight launch party for Dead Space 2. Nobody showed up, at any store. To this date, every copy of Dead Space 2 I put out at all three stores is still there. Woo hoo!
