  • Beards.

A beard on a man once represented class, dignity and gained much respect in ancient times. Nowadays, the beard has evolved to someone that doesn't have a job or someone that is a drifter of sorts. It is time to bring back the beard.

What is more manly than a nice thick beard? Can anyone ever picture Paul Bunyan without a beard?

The beard, it seems, has made a comeback it recent years. Zach Galifianakis of "The Hangover" fame, Brad Pitt, and even Conan O'Brien are currently or have at least recently been sporting beards.

Beards nowadays come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors but they all represent one thing, a different look. Women have makeup and their hair to style but men don't have much except for some hair on the face. Still, it does wonders for a man wanting something new out of his look.

There's the full Moses-like beards that command respect and adoration. Those are reserved for royalty, religious leaders, Brad Pitt and Rob Zombie.

Then there's the 'I haven't shaved in a week so that i have enough stubble to look like i have a beard but not enough to look like i care' beard. Those beards are dedicated to the Luke Perry's and Brett Favre's of the world.

The next beard we have is the full beard that is shaped up to look clean enough to sport in public. These beards are reserved for athletes, rappers, broadcasters, and rugged metrosexuals.

A beard is a unique feature that should be appreciated for what it does. Instead of twiddling thumbs to make a decision, a man rubbing his beard always looks to be making a very important and critical life decision. Also, many women complain of beards itching when they kiss their significant other but this author believes women LOVE beards.

It is no secret that a nice clean shaven, suit wearing, in-shape gentleman is the ideal desire of a woman but a rugged, rough man that is sporting a beard, can easily be desired as well.

A beard is the easiest way a man becomes a man without the obvious (muscle build, hair type, voice, etc.). It is the one thing that a man has that cannot be duplicated by a woman and look just as good. The beard covers up parts of a male body that do not need to be exposed such as the double chin or the nose hairs.

It is a way to become a new person with a new look that does not need to catch up with old friends because with that beard, a man will most certainly gain new ones.

So, Mancouch: How many of you out there are sporting beards? And for the ladies: Do you like guys with beards?
