Are You Living in One of America's Drunkest Cities?
This is a guest post from Just A Guy Thing.
The Daily Beast has published their breakdown of America's drunkest cities. The results are a mixed bag. Some cities are no-brainers, like #1 Milwaukee and #8 Boston, but others are head-scratchingly strange, like #10 San Diego and #3 San Francisco. Their conclusions are drawn from a composite of liver failure stats(!), average drinks per month, and percentage of residents who consider themselves binge drinkers.
There doesn't seem to be much of a common theme running through the top 50 cities. Some are well-off, some are middle class. Many have nice weather, and many are midwestern and northeastern hellholes. New Orleans comes in at a lowly #25, which leads me to believe that everything I learned about the geography of alcoholism is completely wrong. Take a look at the list here and see if your city makes the cut. With lots of help from you, of course.

Bottoms up.
Just moved home (WI) from St. Paul. Interesting. I'm only surprised that Madison wasn't listed anywhere. I know Milwaukee is #1, but you'd think with UW-Madison's drinking culture (I'm a Badger - I know first-hand), it'd be on there. Maybe they controlled for the spike due to college students' drinking propensity.
I'm surprised NYC didn't make it to be honest. Or more cities from NY in general.
Someone explain to me why NYC didn't make the list? 0_o
I'm a little shocked Austin isn't higher.
Yeah, I'm surprised NYC didn't make it on the list.
Whoooooooooooooooooo #16,baby!! Lmao. I used to be a binge drinker but then i moved out & became an alcoholic for 3 months lol now i'm pretty chill with alcohol. I drink like a normal person.
Wow, Los Angeles is not on the list. Surprising, because I see hood-rats buying beer like crazy.
boston, number 8? lived here forever, it seems like these stats almost have to come from teens...=/ (in boston, i mean)
Number 7, Omaha. *sniffles* I'm so proud!
I thought NYC would be on the list. I guess my city is not drunk after all.
@thatsnotarealword@xanga - Same. Maybe it's because they took into account liver failures.. I'm sure half of the UT students move from Austin before their livers have a chance to fail.
I remember reading Rochester Ny the LEAST DRUNK! Are you kidding me!!???????
Tampa is number 17 :)
We beat New Orleans.
I live close enough to number 1... haha
Yeah, I'm a no-brainer. Millwaukee. XD
Hah... 12 for Denver. SO not surprised. Too bad they don't include marijuana, then we would be the drunkest stoned city in the world.
this website is very good, you can go and see it

New Orleans is 25?? wow! I was thinking it'd be in the top 10! I live in Baton Rouge just about an hour away from Nola! I'm surprised because nola has to be the drunkest city i've ever been to and baton rouge too!
Go Milwaukee :) It makes me proud to be a Wisconsinite. I am surprised Madison, WI isn't on top.
#2, baby.
Proud citizen of #27 :P
Just a short drive away from #1.
Number one, of course.
Well, Milwaukee makes sense. Being a Wisconsinite myself, the term "outdrinking your state gsince 1948" really does makes sense, seeing that we're such a huge brewery state. I have to agree though, that I'm surprised Madison didn't make the list with UW-Madison and the reputation they have.
