  • Most Anticipated Games of 2011

The year is almost over, but all that means is we have another year to look forward to.  Sure this was arguably the best year for gaming so far (Mass Effect, God of War, Red Dead, Reach, etc.), but what does next year hold?  Here are my picks for most anticipated games of 2011.

    Portal 2

Portal is with out a doubt one of the best games ever made.  It was the perfect blend of puzzle solving and dark humor, and it made me so f*cking excited to use the Portal Gun in Half-Life 2 Episode 3, if it ever comes out.  Still, Portal 2 looks amazing and I look forward to going head to head with GLaDOS all over again.

    Mass Effect 3

No single game has ever resonated with me like Mass Effect 2.  It was the prefect mixture of story telling, characters, and combat, and no amount of DLC could quench my thirst for more.  At this years VGA’s Bioware released a short CGI trailer for Mass Effect 3, which we assume is the final game in the series.  I’m looking forward to this game like no other because I can’t wait to see what Bioware does with Earth, I mean, each city could be the size of one of the planet missions from ME1 and ME2.  This is going to be awesome.

    Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception

Much like Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2 was a fantastic achievement.  It was one of the single most polished games I have ever played in my life.  The dialogue was fast and witty, the story was mature and not over the top (until the Yeti’s showed up), and the game play was perfect.  We haven’t seen much from Uncharted 3 yet, but with Naughty Dog’s track record, I’m on board to take control of Nathan Fillio- I mean Drake, all over again.

    Batman: Arkham City

Arkham Asylum was the single best superhero game ever made.  Period.  It combined a mature story, fantastic combat, a beautiful environment, and some of the best voice actors in the world to create something we had never seen before: a great Batman game.  With Arkham City we are getting an environment 5x the of the original, and with a ton more enemies to populate it.  This one is going to be killer.

This is just a taste of what is to come.  Mortal Kombat, Dragon Age II, Infamous, Resistance 3, L.A. Noire (which come to think of it should have made it on this list), and Skyrim are just a few.  Tack on all the DLC for this year's games, and 2011 is going to be a lot of god damn fun.  The New Year here we come.

What game are you most looking forward to next year?

    • About Me: I'm currently a junior at the University of Delaware studying Creative Writing with minors in History and Political Science. I love to read, write, play videogames, and watch movies (though my schedule no longer affords much time for the second two). My favorite movie is probably The Dark Knight (real original, I know) and my favorite game is probably Red Dead Redemption (though that may change when Arkham Asylum 2 comes out). Other than that I like to listen to music (rock and metal mostly). Honestly the only genre I really cannot stand is Country. Being from New York originally I root for any New York team (Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets) so long as they are beating the crap out of a Philly team.
