Today, T.I. is the Man
I’ve never really like T.I. I’m not a huge rap fan, never really like any of his movies, and when he was arrested a few years ago for having machine guns in his possession, I pretty much filed him away as AAA class D-bag. But then I read about what he did today and I’m not going to lie, it was pretty awesome. This afternoon a man in Atlanta was threatening to jump off of the V103 radio station building in Atlanta, Georgia. After a few hours of listening to police try to coax the man down, rapper T.I. decided that he needed to try and help out.
So what did he do? T.I. went to the scene and told the police that he was willing to try and help talk the man down off the ledge. The police immediately sent him to the negotiator in charge and opened up a dialogue with the distressed man.
It took about 20 minutes of encouraging words from the rapper/actor to get the man to agree not to end his life. And when the man got out of the elevator at the bottom floor, T.I. was waiting for him and the two had a heart to heart.
Now T.I. is not exactly an upstanding citizen, but this is still pretty awesome. Sure there was a chance it could have gone horribly wrong with an untrained person getting involved, but at the end of the day a life was saved. And that should mean something shouldn’t it?
It’s easy to fall into the same trap people find themselves in after someone dies. In life the person was horrible, mean, greedy, racists, or all of the above, but once they have passed away the rose colored glasses come out and suddenly they were a saint. What he did today (October 14, 2010) does nothing to undo his passed misdeeds, but it does make me have a bit more respect for the man.
T.I. went out of his way to help a fellow human being and that is commendable, more than commendable, it’s amazing in this day and age. And maybe it really does mean he has turned over a new leaf, and of that I am cautiously optimistic.
So (although you’ll probably never read this) good job today, T.I. You did something rather than just stand around and watch the drama unfold, and that’s more than most people. Keep up the good work.
What do you think of T.I.'s actions? Would you have done the same?

Aw.
T.I. has always been one of my favorite rappers since he first came out. I adore that man.
Always loved him, good for him.
Always thought he had good music and im happy that he saved a life.
Oh contrare, helping out the fellow human is not that much of a rarity. We can see it in the eye of every celebrity, ready with cameras watching to help out the little guy.
I think it is wonderful that a life was saved, and I commend T.I. for using his mediating skills and not his and fat wallet to do something good.
T.I. is the man. He also does a lot to try to help youth in underfunded urban areas of the country. He may not be the most law-abiding citizen, but he seems like a good guy.
@com_pose@xanga - Oh you, always the cynic.
@Bushy_Tailed@xanga - I am? Haha.
Love him.
I love the way he writes and raps. This doesn't surprise me at all, he is awesome.
OH COME ON!!!!!!
This is clearly a publicity stunt. How convenient that it A) Went down at a radio station, and B) happened right before his court date for violating his parole.
Think about it. If you or I get a DUI, we would likely take action by going to alcohol rehab meetings or any multitude of other things that might make us look favorable in the eyes of the judge.
If you are a A famous "actor"/rapper, with substantially more severe charges, but substantially more money and power, you are likely to go to great lengths to ensure your freedom.
So perhaps he offered this guy an ass load of money to pull this stunt. What better way to avoid eleven months of jail time then to become an over night hero. Does it seem extreme? Hell yeah, BUT, think about this cats lifestyle. This slick bastard lives 10 years of an average persons life in 11 months. I would be pretty desperate to hold onto that luxury myself.
*Sigh*.Unfortunately, his sorry ass is still going back to jail.
Well, at least his as WILL be sorry when he's in there.. Literally.
Good Job T.I (Y)
even though he did get back in jail for marijuana and ecstasy i think?
or maybe i'm not as up to date...
but in the end he is a man with good nature
and he IS a good rapper
