Fuggees Member Won't Support Wyclef Jean for Pres.
I've been following the stories about Wyclef Jean and his bid for President of Haiti ever since it first broke. I wrote a previous blog about it last week.
In that blog I merely wanted to let everyone on Mancouch know about it, like a PSA. I had no opinions about Jean's decision. And now, I still don't know what to think. Part of me thinks he could do it, with the right intentions and the right advisers and the right plan. Part of me thinks that he can't, and to be fair, that no one can.
But I was taken aback when Pras, a member of the famous recording group the Fugees, gave an interview to the Associated Press about why he thinks Wyclef Jean is not the right choice for Haiti. (I must admit I know nothing about the former relationship between the two men, whether they were rivals or best friends.)
For your consideration, feel free to view the video clip and leave your comments, while I continue to form my own opinion as the story continues.
How do you feel about a member of the Fuggees voicing his opposition to Wyclef jean?

He's entitled to his opinions and thoughts as well. Them being part of the same musical group doesn't change that. And his reasons were legit. Where's the experience? What is his plan? Those are questions for any candidate.
And the title seems misleading. It's not that he absolutely will not support him, he just wants to see more from him.
Damn, you would need a team of genius economists and social scientists to pull Haiti out of the mess they're in. We in America don't even have anything on that level with our government and our problems aren't as grave.
If he could just end the child slavery there, get more jobs there, or get them potable water, I'd say he did a good job.
@Kazydai - I agree with that right there..
I feel like he has some valid concerns but thats kinda effed up that he doesn't support his friend. Its one thing that to disagree but like he didn't have to do it in public. Basically he didn't have to come off all hardcore about him not being president. Like he could have just said I want him to explain these things to me and if he can then I think he should be president.
I agree with him that Wyclef needs to actually show specific plans of how he's going to help than just go by the lyrics to "If I was President." It also is kind of weird that Wyclef would probably not even be living in Haiti (far as I know) if he were president, he would just fly back to the States.
However, Wyclef definitely brings more attention to Haiti which is definitely helpful, and since he is so popular he will definitely be under more public scrutiny. He also is trusted not to be one of the corrupt dictators that Haiti has had before (let's hope that at least this is true). And, what could happen is that Wyclef just becomes the figurehead and there is someone more experienced and knowledgeable with good intentions that is supporting him and being the actual president.
hell if ARNOLD can do it... why not Wyclef. I mean he's been the most visually active person that I've seen advocating for Haiti. Now this isn't to say that no one else does, but lets face it, he brings alot of Haiti's issues to light. Now by Haitian standards I don't know what the qualifications are, but I'm sure he could do it.
Personally, I just hope Wyclef does Haiti some real good and not his pocket. I love the Fugees and always have, but I shook my head when I heard this. Pras has the same valid concerns that most people have about the issue, and I don't blame him. Does Wyclef have the qualifications for it? Sort of. He has property there, and all the basic "qualifications" but I highly doubt he has any professional qualifications. Does he bring a lot of attention to Haiti? Yes, of course. Do I think he should be elected? I am still torn, but leaning more towards no. What happened to people running for office because they want to make a change? Levi Johnston for Alaska? Wyclef for Haiti? It seems as if political offices have just become publicity stunts.
