Aesop Rock's Labor Days Might Be My New Favorite Hip Hop CD

Over the last 4 or 5 years I have become more of a fan of underground hip hop. I fell in love with artists like Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Cage, and Brother Ali. Only recently did I start getting into Aesop Rock and his abstract rhymes. He might be the most intricate rapper I have ever heard. Half of the time I can't even follow what he is talking about because of how well he rhymes and how fast he speaks. I had his latest cd "None Shall Pass" for a while and like about 2/3's of the cd. But I recently got his older cd "Labor Days" and have fallen in love.
Labor Days might just be my new chill out album for life. The beats and samples are just incredible and Aes's rhymes and themes are genius. Songs like "9 to 5'er's Anthem" and "One Brick" and "Save Yourself" pull you in with their stories and ideas.
I have been coming home from work or cruising in my car with the album blasting. It's definitely one of my new hip hop favorites.
Aesop Rock might be one of the strangest rappers out there but I think he also might be one of the best. If you have heard his new stuff, you should definitely check out his old stuff like "Labor Days" and "Bazooka Tooth."
What do you think of Aesop Rock? Or Who is your favorite underground Hip Hop artist?

Is this the one with No Regrets?
I used to cream myself over Copywrite...
The whole Rhymesayers/Minneapolis scene is where it's at as far as underground goes. Sage Francis and Atmosphere are definitely top of the list. Aesop Rock, POS, and others aren't too far off.
I fell in love with None Shall Pass the first time I heard it, so this will be on my - definitely get list.
MMMM YES! Finally, appreciation for the finer side of hip-hop/rap music. Cage, Aesop Rock, and POS are some of my favorites. I saw POS at Warped Tour last summer in Camden. He did a floor show, and I was about 3 feet away from him, it was incredible, love at first listen.
It's probably going to be a secret that Def Jux, Stones Throw and Anticon are all three of my favorite predominantly hip-hop labels. Aesop definitely goes under label #1.
I'm happy this was written, but this album is ooold... what took you so long? :p
I saw him in DC summer 2008, he's amazing! I listened to him so much that I kind of grew out of him, but he'll always have a place in my heart. I loved Labor Days first, but None Shall Pass slowly took the lead... if you can/ don't already have it, get his whole discography. you won't be sorry!
@greenglow28@xanga - at 930 club? Yeah I was there shooting for a local zine. Ive NEVER missed Aesop when he comes thru DC . LOVE that dude. And I feel you on "growing out" of his stuff... sometimes you just want to groove on some music and his stuff keep me up thinking at night.. complex metaphors and figures of speech. I find a new meaning in his stuff whenver I take a break. I never "grew out" of him.. persay, just put him on the back burner momentarily.
Yeah Labor days is THE perfect album to get introduced to him on. Theres like 6 SOLID classics on that album EASY. Not many artists can do that right out of the gate(well he had two EPs before that but this is his first major release) PLUS a DOOM cameo??. But I'd put Daylight before Bazooka Tooth... even tho its only an EP & Tomer Hanuka's album art for Bazooka is dope as hell.
Thing that I hate about ol boy tho... dude does a PLETHORA of side work, posse cuts and guest spots(both rapping AND producing) on other people's projects so if you dont keep up with ALL OF HIS FRIENDS/LABLE and label mates you'll miss LOADS of his work. Peep"Left it to Us" by Cage and"Possee Slash" by Vast Aire to get what I mean.
Its probably best to follow his twitter to keep up... dudes a studio rat for sure.
aes is one of my fav rappers. his shit never gets old. infinite props to whoever posted this.
i love aesop rock, no regrets is my favorite song of his, but almost all of his stuff is so good. i havent really heard a lot of his new stuff, but i got to see him in hollywood about 5 years ago. he was amazing. i was in awe of him and couldn't believe i got to be backstage in the same room as him.
