"I Am Sam" Brief Movie Review
I AM SAM is a good drama about a mentally-retarded man fighting to regain custody of his 7-year-old daughter.The film had great performances by Oscar winner ("Mystic River","Milk") Sean Penn, Dakota Fanning [who was adorable and intelligent], Michelle Pfeiffer, Laura Dern, Dianne West, and Richard Schiff. This movie did what very few films manage to do - it made me cry. It was through the performances and not the writing that drove this film, and it was definitely designed to appeal to the overly-sentimental. I liked the powerful message of love and a connection that was the theme that was at the core of parenthood, and not just intelligence. Director/writer Jessie Nelson did a solid job. It's a good film despite some flaws, and it's worth a watch.

I watched this for a class last semester. Definitely made me cry, and over sentimental I am, sometimes. I liked it alright though.
only 3.5? i'd give it a 4 or 4.5. it made me cry too! dakota fanning was just as brilliant as sean penn in this movie.
other movies that i like with sean penn are mystic river, 21 grams, and milk.
I don't have a favorite. I like most of his movies.

Yeah I have yet to see this movie, but I'll give it a chance next time my Netflix is not all booked up. I'm not sure how people rate movies these days, but I'd have to say I rarely rate a movie above a 4.0. Near perfect ratings are only given or should be to those that are epics. Maybe this was that movie for you, but I'm not a fan of heartwarming movies. If anyone has any other good movies throw em at me I'm bored and need something to do :P
This reminds me of "Drawn Together" when the princess clara's mentally challenged cousin comes to visit. "She only says quotes from "I am Sam."
I love this movie, Sean Penn was great and so was Dakota.

The film was worth it just for Paul Westerburg covering "Nowhere Man."
