  • Conan's Headed To TBS

Wow, well that's a shocker. I thought for sure Conan would head to Fox. Although, apparently, until 10 days ago that's mostly who Conan's people were talking to. Negotiations hit a rough patch because Fox couldn't guarantee that all its affiliates would air the show in its proper timeslot until three years after its first air date.

That's when TBS swooped in offering Conan the 11pm hour, all the freedom he could want, and a marketing blitz like they had never done before with heavy promotion during the NBA and MLB playoffs.

At first his team refused the offer on the basis that TBS already had an 11pm show hosted by George Lopez. Conan's team thought the situation seemed a little familiar and wouldn't budge until they got a personal call from George Lopez himself asking Conan to come on board.

I'm still surprised that he's heading to cable. After tasting the late night spotlight on a network (well ... nbc) it seems like a step back to head to TBS. And TBS doesn't seem to have all that much going for it in terms of original programming. Still, this helps them more than it helps him so it offers a freedom he didn't have on the Tonight Show to truly indulge in the wackiness that made us love him in the first place.

Is this move a good decision?
