I'd like to go on record and say I have nothing against dogs. In fact, I grew up with dogs in the home, but sometimes caring for a dog is harder for me. This lead me to tell my sister's boyfriend that when I get my own place again, I want a cat. After giving me a look, he said, "A cat ain't gonna protect you, you need a pitbull". Um well now, cats are cleaner, catch mice, but dogs can break chains/run off, among other things. Being the way I am, a cat is a good idea.
So, what do you think, is it unmanly to prefer cats over dogs?

Dude, hell no! Why even ask if it's "unmanly"? I think sensitive guys (the type I'd imagine would ask/care about this) show more manly qualities than "manly" or "macho" guys anyway, seeing as the only difference is the ability to accept and deal with the emotions you have (instead of blaming the "crazy" girlfriend). Anyway, cats rock! Dogs rock too, but lets look at it this way: cats are easier to deal with and take care of, they're softer and smell better, and I find it much less disgusting to clean a litter box with a scooper than to pick up poop witt nothing other than a thin layer of plastic between the poop and my hand.
It's ok to like cats, really. It's not like you can turn into the "crazy cat lady" unless you have a sex change operation while being anti-social and owning cats.
I've got a cat. She's called Mildred. She is depressed and arthritic and I only bought her to impress a girl. However, she is more than a match for any dog.

Not at all. Dogs are cute and all, but it just isn't the same. You have to have a yard for a dog. You have to take them for walks. And you can't be away from home for most of the day of they'll pee/poop everywhere! Cats are pretty no maintenance.
Unless you're looking at a tiger, yes.
i have a dog, but i wish i had a cat instead..
while my parents are gone, i had to walk him.. which i didn't. i had to wash him, which i did.. but i hate it! and feed him twice a day.. which shit me because i like to bolt out of the house the second my parents set me free to rule the house for the 3 weeks!
which caused me to have to sleep at home, come home to feed him when i am out and make him go pee (which is not easy when he can hold it in) when i come home for the short few minutes when i feed him.
This is not some sick joke but I own a three legged cat named Tripod (promise I'm not trying to make an innuendo, it was either call him Tripod or Ilean). Anyways, when girls see him, they swoon and baby him and he loves it. Then I explain how I "saved" him and it gets me brownie points for sure - doesn't hurt that he's the friendliest cat I know.
I never knew one's gender identity was determined by their pet choices.
Still waiting for one of the cats that I will have, to transform into a jaguar or something.
Dogs don't like me, and cats love me. Come on, its an animal anyway, preference doesn't determine manliness. Taming big animals is manly, owning any pet is neutral. (As long as it isnt some sort of Toy dog...f-ing ankle biters)
tell him, "i don't need a dog to save my dick like you do."
nope.. cats are better!
Cats are nice and all, but dogs are man's best friend for a reason. They're better. Most cats are practically the animal version of that weird shy kid who won't talk to anyone unless they've been in his/her presence for more than 24 hours. Most dog's favorite thing to do is meet new people and other dogs. (Please notice I said "most" in those statements. I have met nice cats, but I've very rarely ever met a mean dog)
Also, if you're a real man and enjoy the outdoors and what not, cats aren't even an option. I literally have never seen someone out hiking with a cat. Why? Because cats are bitches. You know what my dog loves? Fishing. You know what else she loves? Going for walks in the woods and chasing after anything smaller than her and/or that leaves my hand at a high velocity.
What do cats like to do? Lounge on your couch and paw at a small fabric mouse until it gets bored with you. Than it just stares and meows at you until you feed their lazy ass.
Dogs are only messier if you're a lazy bitch and don't train it to piss and shit outside. Frankly, I'd rather have to open a door every once in a while then have some room in my house smell like cat urine and have to scoop up cat shit.
Both animals shed so there's no real argument there.
I guess cats are cool if you're not home a lot and/or lazy. Other than that, there are enough varieties of dogs to accommodate what you want. So is it unmanly? I don't know, but I equate it to owning Broadway musical soundtracks. You may not have a vagina, but who knows?
Only if it's the adult Simba. Otherwise VERY unmanly. (Could be a good way to get ladies though). But don't bring your kitty to the GYM.
@salvatruca_stalking_havok13@xanga - EXACTLY what I was thinking!
If a man likes cats, he scores major points with me, because I have a cat and I plan on keeping him until one of us dies, the cat is only 2 years old, and their average lifespan is 12-15 years. So if he likes my cat (as in really likes him, doesn't just tolerate him) that's a huge plus. I don't question his gender identity, I just think we have something in common.
@MyCongee@xanga - Hehe, basically that's why he needs Seven for.
Not at all--it's a personality thing. My husband also grew up with dogs his entire life, but upon meeting our feline "child" Poppet at the shelter, he and I both knew she was meant to live with us. The same thing with our newest feline member, Mia.
I think the opposite is true. Dogs are too obedient/eager to please if you ask me, and too much work. Cats have more personality and live on their own terms (for the most part, I mean we're still bigger and can scoop them up whenever we want, lol). I considered getting a dog for protection as a single female living alone, but heck I don't want to go out every day in the winter and walk the dog, or have to be home all the time to do so. Cats, you can set them up with enough food, water and litter and go on a 3 day trip and not have to worry. :)
yes
Why can't a man have both? :/ I like both cats and dogs.
No. Is it manly for me to prefer dogs? No. Stupid gender rules.
Of course not. -3-
Dude, for me, if a man has an animal, whether it is a dog or cat, companion, major points. My boyfriend has a dog, which i have grown to love but it doesnt matter. he could have a hamster for all i care and i would still love him lol. but go ahead and get the cat :3 they are cleaner, and they're there for you. Not saying dogs arent, but cats can take care of themselves when they need to. when i was younger, my family had a cat. She was independent, but still loved us. When she would poop, she would go to the backyard, dig a hole, poop, and then cover it. O_O weirdest thing ever.
But then again, it's your choice bud! maybe you can get a cat AND a dog :3
You're looking for a companion, not a bouncer. I think you are better off trying to figure out which one best fits your lifestyle, both have the potential to becoming a lifelong friends. =) I love cats, there's nothing sexist about it.
i wish my boyfriend liked cats more :(
cats are such bitches. easy to live with, but such bitches.
