Assigning Gender To Material Goods?
So as a fulltime student in this economic meltdown, I don’t have much of disposable income. Therefore I have to settle for small car. I’m a grown man and i have to listen other people b**** about why I have a “girl’s” car. Unless it’s pink and has stuffed animals all over the back windshield, how is it a girl’s car?
Are these dudes really insecure about their manhood that they need a freaking truck to make them feel like a man? And who gets to decide which car is girly and which isn’t?

Yes.
Because they have tiny penises.
DUH.
I'm a girl and want a giant, honking, enormous truck. It was what I learned to drive in (with my best FEMALE friend).
That's silly. A car is a car. I commend a man for having his own to begin with -- it usually means you're stable enough to afford one. Stability is good. :)
just need a four wheeler that does the job
i drive a 94 ford ranger. no one believes me when i tell them it's my vehicle :[
but if it gets you to point a to b....who cares! those comments are probably coming from kids who's parents bought then their "manly" car.
A small car doesn't automatically make it a girl car. Some cars simply
look more feminine or have a feminine quality about them. Like the VW
Beetle or Jeep Liberty. They're just chick cars. There are manly small cars though. Head to any local race track and you'll see what I mean.
Agreed. I might make jokes like that if it was a beetle or something like that. But other then that, most cars look the same to me. My brother refers to his car as a girl, but he doesn't call it a girly car. Let joke about your car then ask them how much it costs to fill up their truck with gas. See what kind of responses you get.
@PervyPenguin@xanga - It's true. Studies have show that males who own a big-ass truck use it only to compensate for their tiny penises.
So, TP, next time some loser in a truck pesters you about your "girly" automobile, just smile and say, "Hey, nice truck. Sorry about your dick."
all i'm gonna say is that jeep is badass, no matter what gender. in fact, i couldn't choose one for mine if i tried (to refer to it as). i dunno, just strikes me as more of a ... vehicle.
love my babyjeep
Whatevs. If it has 4 weels, an engine, and can honk.. its a car. A car is a car. How can you classify which ones are for girls and which ones are for guys?
Some people put a lot of value in their "image," particularly with what kind of car they drive. I say it's all fleeting and not worth the $ to invest in something that will only loss value over time. I drive a '94 Honda Civic with a dent in one side that I have no intention of fixing since everything still works fine. A car is a car is car. From Point A to Point B is all I care about.
that's silly. cars are asexual. and we all know boys with huge trucks have them for the satisfaction of saying, "it doesn't fit; it's too big" for something in their lives, even if it is just parking.
Not going to lie, I refer to my car as a boy. I don't know why I do it, but I do. It comes naturally.
@NoHeroesForTomorrow@xanga - AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Will do!
having A car is better than having NO car at all.
yep.
Responses you might try
"Hey it may be a small car, but it's got *insert random impressive info about what's under the hood, like engine, liters of who knows what* and gets some serious gas mileage, allowing me to take my date out at a finer restaurant than your gas guzzler could"
Or you could be funny about it
"After I go down gravel roads, all I gotta do is spit on it and it's clean! You've gotta use up all the ocean to clean your road hog"
"it's such a small car, the police don't even see me speed by!"
"It's better than a van" (I'm thinking of the soccer mom stereotype I'll soon get once we upgrade one of our cars to be able to ship all the kids around at once)
it's more masculine if it's more expensive
That's an interesting question, and one foreign to the English language. However, there's something to be said for Romance languages who assign a gender to every noun--for example, in French one drives "la voiture," a feminine noun; but in Mexico, one drives "el carro," which is masculine. However, in Spanish, "truck" is "la cameoneta," which is a feminine noun.
Also, I don't understand the leap from your penultimate paragraph to the final one. If you acknowledge the existence of girl cars (i.e. "pink" or "having stuffed animals"), why do you attack others' manhood if your only disagreement with them is criteria? Is there something fundamental about the criteria that calls masculinity into question? I just don't understand and would appreciate some clarification.
The picture, though, really makes your point.

In New Mexican spanish, a car is "el caro", and a truck is "la trocha". I lost my truck over a year ago (economy), and my mom gave me her old red Cavalier. At first I thought of it as a girl's car. Now, who cares....?
I drive a '98 Ranger. His name is Stanley, and yes he's a boy. My desktop, laptop, XHD, and iPod all have names and they are all boys. Because I said so. I bought the damn things, why can't I make them boys if I want? And anyway, just about everyone that's made fun of my truck has called in the favor of using said truck at least once, so ha.
As far as 'girl cars' and 'guy cars,' I know a guy that's in love with his PT Cruiser, and also a woman that lives for her F-350. Make it what you want; these days it has to be the little things, right?
Lol.

Yeah, and they probably complain about gas prices, too. Anything's expensive when you have a monster truck to fill up. And seriously, how often do they actually haul anything (last time I checked that was the point of a truck)? So you have practically no passenger room, horrible manoeverability, and even worse gas mileage, all because you need to prove you're a man.
BTW, my 96 Cavalier has a boy's name.
If they're bitching because you drive a girl car tell them to fucking walk. That should settle the matter pretty quickly.
