The Concert A$$hole
On our way to the Eric Clapton concert last Thursday [ed. - By last Thursday do you mean 20 years ago? Because that's around the last time Clapton did anything worthwhile], my daughter Erica says to me, "I hope we don't get some asshole sitting near us." It was an off the cuff remark, and I KNEW just what she meant. A dear friend of mine used to say that saying things like Erica did was "calling the devil". Sure enough, we got the supreme asshole of all, sitting right behind us.
Seems he had a need to make sure everyone within earshot (above the music of Daltrey & Clapton) know that his girlfriend pissed him off outside and nothing more than a simple apology from her would do. Of course none was forthcoming. He interlaced the word fuck into his rantings more times than Tarantino used it in Pulp Fiction. It would get quiet for a couple of minutes, and then he'd start again...threatening if she didn't apologize, that he would leave. She never apologized, and he never left. As he is standing above me on the aisle steps, with a huge beer about 3/4 full, look to Erica and ask her how long does she think it will be before I am wearing it. (Calling the devil AGAIN).
If this isn't enough, he's screaming to Clapton to play 57 Chevy over and over again. I wish Clapton did hear him and bonked one of his axes over his head, only to tell him to get the title of the song right. About 3/4 of the way through the show, still no apology forthcoming, the girlfriend gets up and leaves. He promptly ran down the aisle behind her and they were GONE.
Unlike my usual self, I never said a word. I had being having such a special evening with Erica that I didn't want to put a damper on it in any way, shape or form.
What would you have done?

stomped on his throat
@Naga_Petang@xanga - Seconded xD
people need to just relax and enjoy the show. i mean sure have a little fun and go wild once in a while. but respect the people around you. treat people the way you want to be treated. tell them to chill.
i hate people like this in class. one sits directly behind me and never shuts the fuck up, even though the entire small class can hear her "whispering". to be honest, i care so little about her and her friends' drama, i would much rather be able to comprehend what the professor is talking about.
hahaha They are waiting. Watching a grown man jump up and down on his chair stomping and crying like a 15 year old teeny bopper at the sight of James Brown... pitiful. Of course that was years ago. But men are not excluded, I dont want to hear any more 40 something women telling me that she wants to see what else George Thorogood can do with his fingers... Or the asshole in the pit flailing a crutch in circles... of course, he ended up meeting the floor with his mouth
First you tell him to stfu or gtfo, then you help him do it if he doesn't comply.
Any place you go where there are a large amount of people gathering there's always going to be at least ONE douchebag. And chances are, he's in front of you jumping around and stomps hard on your foot. Or spills beer on you. Or is 6'9" but still insists on being right up against the stage...directly in front of you. Or he elbows you in the ribs while "dancing".
Then he gets the beautiful humiliation of being pushed around by a seemingly small but very strong girl (hehe)...
Depends on how much I would have spend on the ticket. If it was more then 30 bucks I wouldn't have done anything. Gotta get my moneys worth. But anything less and I probably would have told him to shove it hopefully starting with him swinging a punch and giving me a excuse to kick the crap outta him.
Probably the same thing you did - nothing.
I would have turned around and hit the guy in the nuts as hard as I could. I would have had instant applause from all the surrounding concertogers who hated this loudmouthed douchebag as much as me, and his girlfriend probably would have kissed me.
By the way, ed., since you like to take potshots at Eric Clapton, when was the last time you could walk on stage and have 75,000 people cheering for YOU, paying to come in and listen to you play the songs and sing the notes just like you did 20 or 30 years ago? When you reach superstar status like him, have multi-million dollar selling albums, and hundreds of thousands of fans from 5 generations all around the world, let me know OK? Jerk. kthnxbye.

Thanks for all the feedback. This is the first post I've ever gotten feedback from. I have to agree with kthnx re Ed's comment. Geez, our classic rock icons are in their mid to late 60's! they've been touring for 40-50 years. Life on the road (especially THAT lifestyle) can run you ragged. Yet these guys are out ther rockin', innovating, and STILL drawing huge fan support of ALL generations. Try imagining a wlak in their shoes before you criticize that they (Clapton) is not like he was 20 years ago. I saw him 10 years ago, and all he played was old negro blues from the 30's. The show sucked and the audience was in a coma. It wasn't Clapton, it was the music, and the expectation of the crowd that came to see the guy who made his bones with The Yardbirds, ohn Mayall, Cream, Derek & Dominoes and on his own.
Re the a$$hole. Guess we'd all react differently. With my daughter there, and having had such a special day to that point, I bit my tongue and just dealt with it. Born and raised in NYC, it is not my style to sit there and absorb that crap. Older and wiser? Geez...that's scary!
My daughters Erica & Lauren need votes for a scholarship contest. The links are posted below, and on my profile page. Posting these links to other websites is a HUGE help. Your DAILY support would be very much appreciated.
