Top 5 Favorite Skaters
The question "Who are your favorite skaters?" came up recently with a few of my friends, now most of us haven't really been keeping up with skateboarding. But, these are my top 5.
1) Bob Burnquist
I remembered my friend introduced me to Bob not too long before THPS1 came out, and I was shocked. Bob's style to me is just sick, does things switch, doing difficult tricks, creating new tricks, and he's accomplished a lot. Even at the X-Games where he did his perfect run you should watch the vid on youtube if you haven't seen it (even Tony Hawk was flipping out while commentating on the run). Even if he doesn't win, he puts on a show.
2) Daewon Song
First saw this guy in a skateboarding magazine doing some roof gaps and stuff like that, and I was trippin out thinking this guy is insane. Then I saw some videos of him, and Daewon's style is very different from others. Daewon does gaps (roof tops, matson containers, etc), he's got some serious manual skills, transition tricks, skates on obstacles that I didn't think could be skated on, and building obstacles to skate on.
3) Rodney Mullen
Rodney is the guy who created a lot of tricks that are used by a lot of skaters (the flat land ollie if I remembered correctly). Rodney does the sickest flat land tricks ever, like casper, primo, impossible, darkslide, and a lot of other that will make you WTF!? It was almost a tie between Rodney and Daewon for who was my second best, the two guys are just insane and I highly suggest you watch the Mullen vs Song videos.
4) Mike Vallely
Mike V is a badass, some people dont like his attitude and he doesn't give a shit, I think is one reason why I like to watch his videos, especially his recent ones. He's an individual, who tells people to "do it yourself" which i think is very true. Other than that, he has a unique style that I haven't seen in a lot of other skaters.

5) Bucky Lasek
Bucky is a champ, one of the sickest vert skaters out there. This guys does a lot of tricks that others wont do, and throw in a extra spin to tricks. He also holds the record for highest score in vert at the X-Games (I think).
well who are your favorite skaters? and why?

I can't come up with a real 1-5 order but these are my favorites:
- Rodney Mullen: An awesome skater, one of the original tricksters
- Tony Hawk: Very talented, brought skateboarding to the mainstream culture and puts a postivive light on skate culture
- Bucky Lasek: amazing talent, edgy moves
- Bob Burnquist: Probably one of the best skaters to watch
- Daewon Song: Innovative style and na little less mainstream than other skaters
-eric koston.. this dude, at least to me, is what street skaters should all aspire to be. he's got a great sense of style, and always a great attitude.
-chris haslam.. again, amazing street skater. i watched a youtube video of the dude ripping on a fucking two by four. a lot of people hate and say his style is circus tricks and stupid, but i absolutely love him. plus, how can you hate on that epic beard?
-mark appleyard.. he's a working mans skater. he doesn't show off, he doesn't talk a bunch of shit, he just goes and rips shit down. amazing.
-mike v.. well. he's just the tough guy. but really, i dig his oldschool footplants and stuff too.
-shuriken shannon.. this kid is seriously just pure style. his tricks are like butter, and i could watch him for days. amazing, amazing amazing.
on the other hand, some skaters i hate..
ryan sheckler, rob dyrdek, p-rod...
I'd put near enough all of these guys on my list. Rodney Mullen was my idol way back when.
Big ups to Rune Glifberg and Geoff Rowley, these guys blew my mind when I'd watch them. So much talent and personality.
But always remember to respect your elders; Jay Adams and Tony Alva. Legends.
