  • Guy Love

We men spend an awful lot of time riffing on things like the opposite sex, dirty jokes and how to grill steaks, and it's a good thing. However, I think there's one topic we too often tip-toe around: other guys. When I say that, I'm not referring to homosexuality or anything of the sort, but rather, the idea of guy love, or the bromance. We've talked about it before: Here and Here.

In a bromance, there are no secrets, very few boundaries, and a complete feeling of comfort. Take what you think you know about being 'best-friends', then multiply it by ten and you might be getting close to this sort of connection. Still unsure? There are quite a few high-profile examples of guy love in action.

For instance, Turk and J.D. from Scrubs are involved in a classic bromance. For quite a while, they lived together, had special man-dates, countless numbers of inside jokes, and they basically knew each other better than they knew themselves. They hardly ever came to blows over anything because of the intense amount of love and respect between them. Perhaps most importantly, they let everyone else know just how strongly they felt about one another on a regular basis, expressing their special brand of love through daily, sometimes hourly high-fives and hugs.

Not sold on the concept yet? The movie I Love You, Man showed us how a real bromance can begin. Peter, in his search for a best man, found (quite by accident) Sydney. A few fish taco's and a Rush concert later, and they were closer than most married couples.

The point is, male bonding is actually a very important thing, but it's something a lot of guys are sort of shy about discussing. Well, no more. The fact is, many of us probably have a relationship much like the ones I described above, but we're just too weirded out by the idea that we could share some form of intimacy with another guy that simply dismiss it. But why be timid about it? Just come out and admit it.

    Guy love is good.

Have you been/are you involved in some kind of bromance?
