  • Man Buys Space Station for $330,000

The problem? It's in a game.

While it's a nice place complete with a strip club, I don't think it's worth five times the value of my student loans. Planet Calypso player "Buzz Erik Lightyear" bought 3.3 million Project Entropia Dollars (the in-game currency of the game), with $330,000 real dollars, just to purchase a piece of virtual, intergalactic real estate. According to the official Planet Calypso website, this was the highest buying price of anything in the game. The old record was the sale of space resort Club Neverdie, which was sold for the equivalent of $100,000.

The strip club in the Crystal Palace Space Station, Stahlsteiner's.

What kind of jobs must these people have? If I had that kind of money to throw around, I wouldn't be writing for you right now, I'd be sipping martinis on a beach somewhere, surrounded by beautiful people. There is nothing that would make me seriously consider even dropping $50 on a piece of virtual real estate. Maybe the guy's in love with the pixelated white-haired chick in the strip club.

Would you want to purchase your own virtual strip club? What would you blow a spare $330,000 on?
