The problem? It's in a
game.
While it's a
nice place complete with a strip club, I don't think it's worth five times the value of my student loans. Planet Calypso player "Buzz Erik Lightyear" bought 3.3 million Project Entropia Dollars (the in-game currency of the game), with $330,000 real dollars, just to purchase a piece of virtual, intergalactic real estate. According to the official Planet Calypso
website, this was the highest buying price of anything in the game. The old record was the sale of space resort Club Neverdie, which was sold for the equivalent of $100,000.
The strip club in the Crystal Palace Space Station, Stahlsteiner's.
What kind of jobs must these people have? If I had that kind of money to throw around, I wouldn't be writing for you right now, I'd be sipping martinis on a beach somewhere, surrounded by beautiful people. There is nothing that would make me seriously consider even dropping $50 on a piece of virtual real estate. Maybe the guy's in love with the pixelated white-haired chick in the strip club.
Would you want to purchase your own virtual strip club? What would you blow a spare $330,000 on?

some people just have more money than sense, let them blow it. Personally with that kind of money i would buy myself a small house, and then save the rest, but then again I was always odd like that
Blow $330,000 DIVE VACATION around the world!
I'd pay off all my bills, buy a house & then find a job to bullshit around with. I'd live debt free in my own house with change to spare so I wont have to work hard for a while. LOL
I suppose each to their own but I'd buy my own real home plus any monies left over would go to buying a decent car or ute.
If I had that much extra money I would be donating it to charities, schools, and conservation programs!
i would get myself through school, and then travel.
i always wish i could spend a nice $5 on farmcash to buy things for my farmville, but i of course cannot bring myself to do it. this guy must be a multimilionaire.
Cars, homes, food, drinks, drugs, designing, investing, gambling, revolution. Loads of things besides digital property.
This just goes to show that you should never make of video gamers. Yes, nerdy and geeky as they may be, they will make SO MUCH MONEY and then flaunt it in your face by buying things that have no actual value in the real world.
If I had that extra money I would spend it on something USEFUL.
wow that is absolutely sad...pathetic and ridiculous...i mean people are out there with nothing no money to even buy there kids food and then there are these people who spend that kind of money on crap it pisses me off...people are unbelievable.
just to throw around? a place like mancouch where i could endlessly bait women just to piss em off and send em back to their boytoys just to make those boy lives a living hell..well worse than it already is... and every manjack out there would know heh life is good for us but lol hate to be that dude...
My first impression on reading this article was much the same that has been said but giving it a little more thought I did begin to wonder whether this so called player isn't just a member of the company that runs this website. Given this article has been produced on other news websites to draw attention to the wacky adventures in this virtual world, their visits must have shot up. Just an idle, conspiracy theory observation...
I'd blow 330,000 on my college education..

Home, car, computer, save. Rest of that money goes to any remaining education costs, then either saving it for my kids' educations, or for retirement eventually.
Are you kidding? I'm all for gaming but that's ridiculous...and what is planet calypso anyway!? I've never even heard of it.
My mansion I want to buy in Thailand is 20,000 (USD). 330,000! ohhh the things I could do....
I would pay off my school bills, buy my own fashion boutique, and keep the rest of the money and buy a small house or a nice (not too pricey) apartment. Some people really do have more cash than common sense. That dude could have spent that kind of money on something useful like helping abolish hunger in a small country. What an IDIOT!
That is CRAZY! What the hell?
For some reason, I just can't believe that....
I never use real money on virtual games, there's no real use.
And I would not worry about college and encourage my family to buy an upstate house.
I'm currently 17, no debt to worry about yet!
*jaw drop*
if i'm the game creator i'd sell any quantity of space station to that man =0=
heck i'd give him any game item and let him be on top rank
@black_lie@xanga - i agree
