This weekend marked Avatar becoming just the 5th movie all time to pass $1 billion worldwide. It is currently the 4th highest grossing movie worldwide of all time.
Domestically it has grossed $350 million and it just made $68 million this past weekend (its third weekend) with only a 9.7% drop in gross from last weekend. These are meteoric numbers, pacing just behind The Dark Knight domestically and already passing by it's final worldwide gross.
Can Avatar finally be the movie to dethrone Titanic as the highest grossing film of all time? Domestically, worldwide, or both?

I really hope so. I never liked Titanic and never understood the hype around it. Avatar is finally a movie I think is worthy of being all around #1.
So a movie by James Cameron is trying to knock another movie by James Cameron out of the top spot.... ... ... Peter Jackson needs to get his shit in gear.
Avatar is awesome - it has CGI and real action with lots of firepower.
its really not a wonder for me because it is an expected result from James Cameroon. he has provided every thing that people had expectation over his film. awesome CG work. i wonder how this old man thinking like today's generation.

Its got everything in it...the good and the bad ...and the challenges of life...as well as all the special effects...well done from my point of view.
YAY BLUE WARRIOR KITTEHS!!
*eh hem*
Now that that it's out of my system, I really hope Avatar gives Titanic a run for it's money. (literally)
@Aaliyaan@xanga - agree
does anyone have a list of all the top-grossing flim of all time? im quite interested to see what the other films are.
Hope it goes to no.1. Definitely deserves the spot.
@Aaliyaan@xanga - Anyway titanic holds the no.1 spot because it was in the cinemas for three months plus.
It's capable of surpassing Titanic. Here, iMAX theatres are frkkin booked until, like, the end of this week! Most people watched it in 2D and 3D, (or 2D and iMAX), so that's already twice the normal amount of money raked in.
still need to see this movie, can't wait!
After we finish discussing the revenues of Avatar, can we move on to discuss its versus it's?
seeing that avatar was an action packed fictional movie compared to titanics chick flick/romantic movie, those "mediocore" stats are still pretty good. i hope avatar can dethrone titanic.
I know people who have gone back to the theatres to watch it again.
I want this film to be #1 in EVERYTHING except for the plotline... that was it's only weakness.
i hope it surpasses titanic. goodness knows it deserves it way more.
lucky for james cameron (sp?) if it does surpass titanic. doesn't matter though, since he did both. this movie makes your eyes full.
Well considering that Titanic and Avatar are both James Cameron movies, i'm not sure it really matters (to him at least).
doubt it. Avatar was so long and predictably lame. Though, the fact that it can be seen in 2 and 3 D has to help.
@Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga - this happens with all movies, though.
I haven't seen it yet
@P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga - same here my sister went yesterday and told it it was good. To which I said but I told you it was good and convinced her to see it in 'REAL D 3D' so now I have to wait to this coming weekend to see it hope there is someone who has not seen it yet to go with me hahahaha
@Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga - my friend in NY has seen it 3 times by himself, his GF, and his T.A what next his house cleaner.....wait maybe he did
Seeing it tomorrow, I've never heard anything but good reviews so I'm excited
Oh definitely... probably surpass Titanic in all respects since it contains elements that I think all countries/cultures can appreciate, though I feel it'll be an especially big hit in Asia.
Titanic was the highest grossing movie of all time? Wow. I thought it was okay. Nothing spectacular.
But Avatar, I freaking loved.
