New York State Senator Makes Impassioned Speech About Gay Marriage
Usually when we post videos on here it is because they're funny. That isn't the case here, but instead we're posting it because it is important. Even if the motion ended up failing in the end, this speech by State Senator Diane Savino should be shown to everyone. This is an issue that affects millions of men and women around the country. This bill had already passed the new york state assembly and this was during the senate vote.

I saw this and it was awesome.
"So if there's anything wrong with the sanctity of marriage in America,it comes from those of us who have the privilege and the right and have abused it for decades."
Preach! This woman is beyond amazing!
That was amazing.
eloquent. nice post.
I really loved this speech. I just can't believe it didn't pass. What a sad day. :(
So good.
Why didn't it pass D= get all those oldies out of congress
Best thing I've heard all day.
i'm so glad that it didn't pass. they know that the people will oppose them.
aww that was really good... this needs to make it to front page asap.
i like this lady.
I was astounded when I saw this. She's really good.
I was so moved, I wrote her an e-mail thanking her. I don't live in NY or vote, for that matter.
Wow. Just WOW. Take that!
Sobering and moving. I wish I am as eloquent.
Yeah, it was a good speech. The best part is when she said about The Bachelor shows.
@stuipdthing@xanga - It's the NYS Assembly not Congress
Awesome speech.
The reason this didn't pass is because Liberals are afraid to address the Deep Issue - i.e., Conservatives do not deserve any respect or qualification of legitimacy at all. Learned colleagues my ass. Conservatives are a gaggle of obnoxious self righteous assholes, they don't give a fuck about economic inequality, they promote it, they don't care about free speech they abridge it all they really care about is control - the us against then paradigm - viz, "their way of life". The marriage aspect of that is utterly irrelevant it is the mere culmination of the thing - the important part to them is the Heterosexual Patriarchal role model phase, which Heterosexual marriage imposes on society - e.g., the man pays, takes the woman out for dinner, slaves for her, pays for the house &c &c and in exchange the woman submits and is controlled thus negating the power and human contribution of women who under the Conservative system are essentially reduced to being slave whores - and there are just enough of them and just enough Macho Alpha males that both enjoy it, to keep their flaming asses chained to the cubic altar. My advice is to follow my example - i.e., I agree with the Conservatives 100% on all of the sex issues - i.e., there is no genetic Gay imperative it is a choice and I'm for Free Will not being a slave to Conservatives; and second that voting for Gay marriage annihilates the Heterosexual role models by unveiling their absurdity. And to finally dink it out, it's for these same reasons that pot is kept illegal, because if everyone turned on, then the fucking Conservatives would be laughed out of existence almost immediately. I say Let's Get It On. You do that by submitting to no one when someone says but don't you think it's wrong well don't you think it's right you just tell them - it's your turn to compromise. It's your turn to give something back to us for allowing you to remain in existence because face it folks the only reason they exist is because you lend them legitimacy and without you they haven't got any and they cease to exist. It's as simple as that. If you don;t do that and start now? The Obama presidency is over and you will resume as slaves to the Conservatives. Now is the time to act while you have the power.
@blazintommyd@xanga - AMEN!!
@supsoo@xanga - Why anyone would be glad that his fellow Americans remain oppressed is beyond me.
This is a temporary victory for the bigotry of old. The clock is ticking.
That was powerful. Thanks.
well written speech, poorly spoken.
put down the damn pen.
being a public speaker for four years in high school, becoming runner up in the state of ohio my senior year, i would know a little about public speaking. her gestures where overused and uncertain, blah blah blah.
her message was strong though, and she certainly believes in herself.
@blazintommyd@xanga - The reason this failed to pass is because the New York State Senate may look like an actual government but it has no idea how to act like one. The Dems have a slight majority but the strongest anti-gay marriage voices were the 3 dems that provided that majority in the first place. The interesting thing about the debate in ny is that the anti-gay marriage votes didn't even speak out before the vote. There were no arguments from them. Just no votes.
