Guy Love
Before I continue on, I must say that I truly mean no offense with what I am about to say. Although I may joke, I do not mean to attack or insult anyone out there. I do understand that it’s a sensitive subject. Please consider my commentary with a carefree spirit~Click Here to See the Lyrics to Guy Love
Guy Love – What exactly is “guy love”? As described quite wonderfully by the two actors in Scrubs (please see above clip), it’s a “guy love” between two guys who are “closer than the average man and wife.” However, do we ever hear of its female equivalence? I have not heard of the term “girl love” used in such an innocent way.
Now, I know such close relationships between two people, in which both may be male, do indeed exist. It’s normal. I find Turk and JD (the two actors in Scrubs) absolutely adorable - especially Turk and his awesome voice! There’s also Chandler and Joey from Friends who share a similar relationship – the clean, fun, and deep understanding of each other as friends. I love it!
However, the above examples involved only the shows’ depictions of the situation. If what is described in the song lyrics (link below the clip) is exercised in real life, would we accept it with such an open heart as we do with those two men? Wouldn’t people be suspicious? I am not ignoring those who genuinely experience this deep connection, but perhaps there are those out there who are abusing this phrase “guy love” as an excuse and a cover for something that’s not so innocent?
There are people who tread the thin line between a platonic relationship and something more, which often happen between males and females. However, when a woman and a man behave as such, people will claim that they’re interested in each other or excessively flirting, and if one party is in a relationship, then it may even be considered cheating or at least it would be frowned upon.
In the case where a man and another man is involved, “guy love,” or “bromance” as some may call it now, is used to justify their interactions that could easily be mistaken for something more. They feel that “there’s no need to clarify,” and to further quote the song, “it's like [they] married [their] best friend, but in a totally manly way.” They would put their girlfriends as second place on their scale, because “brothers” would always come first. They are both male; hence, they understand each other in ways that a female partner would not. There’s playfulness, but there’s also something more.
There are those who are so set with the traditional idea of a heterosexual relationship that they refuse to imagine themselves in anything otherwise. In a sense, “guy love” is their means of escape, the best form of limbo. This way they can have the best of both worlds.
Is “guy love” truly as innocent as what’s shown on television or is it used by people as a code name for something else, like the way some use the term “business trips”?

You're totally right. Batman and Robin, John Adams and Jefferson, Caesar and Antony, the warrior's bond of brotherhood, the business partner you can't live without, the friends who complement one another in a way no female ever could, any relationship which does not quite fit the usual mold;
It's all a gay conspiracy. The depravity must be stopped.
no way, just a bromance. i'll not have accusations against against the entire male population. female best friends aren't gay, why should men be any different?
You forgot to close an italics tag.
it's all fun and games until the boxers come off.
Bromance!
@xWaltzAlyssax@xanga - agreed.
If it IS used to cover up something, I wanna watch.
FUCK YEAH MAN-ON-MAN ACTION! You can't spell "romance" without "man"!

ha. i have guy love with two of my best friends.
whenever seeing this episode of scrubs, we were all three laughing our asses off.
*shrug*
it isn't that abnormal. nothing sexual, just dudes who are good friends.
Bromances and Girlcrushes, or "Guy Love" and "Besties", have been around forever, much the same as "girlfriend vs friend-girl" or "boyfriend versus guyfriend"[or friend-boy].
Two can hang together, in an intimate relationship, with no sensual or sexual overtones whatsoever: it's called the bond of friendship.
Likewise, people have always hung out together, close at all times, but with a seething enmity that cannot be debated; rivals, now known as "frienemies", are not an unusual occurrence, either.
Another matter of note: LGBTs are nothing new, either...
My bromances are amazing. Me and my friend want to perform this song during karaoke, if we can find a bar that has it cued up.
I'm jealous of this guy love thing... i (a girl) have always wanted a close friendship, you know, like a friend you can share any secret with, who will always be there for you and help you out... a good friend.. if i was a guy i would want the same thing. Guy love is a good thing, like they say. People need to stop fearing things like this. XD
