  • Animaniacs: Cartoon Nostalgia Week

The Animaniacs were awesome. Plain and simple. That's why I own them on DVD and a red blooded, fully adult male.

You know how your teachers and various television shows would always try to "make learning fun?" And that that usually meant an extra layer of condescension and boring added to something that was already condescending and boring? Well, Animaniacs was one of the few shows that actually delivered on the promise to make learning fun as witnessed below (there's gonna be a few videos in this one so hold onto your hats) (Note: The show is from the 90s so some of the info is a little dated):

And it wasn't just learning all the time. The goal wasn't necessarily to be educational. It was to be funny and occasionally to do so in a funny way. And while the educational segments are classic and memorable and wonderful, it was really in the more outrageous non sequiturs and irreverence that Animaniacs really reached for the sublime. Look at such segments as "Good Idea Bad Idea" and "Wheel of Morality."

Then there are all the amazing characters. This show actually spawned another show that certainly makes an argument towards surpassing it in awesomeness, Pinky and the Brain. There's also the Goodfeathers, Slappy Squirrel, and Chicken Boo among many many others.

And there's still so much more, like the celebrity shout outs, pop cultural commentary, breaking the fourth wall, parodies, and other aspects that make this among the smartest shows ever made for kids and if you don't love the Animaniacs then you don't have a sense of humor or a brain.

Oh, and did I mention the theme song won an Emmy?

All that's left to say is Helloooooooooooooo Nurse!

    Do you miss the Animaniacs?
