  • David The Gnome: Cartoon Nostalgia Week

We're kicking off Cartoon Nostalgia week with a doozy. David the Gnome. I gather that this will garner two separate camps of responses in the comments. Those that are overjoyed that we mentioned their favorite cartoon and those who have no idea who David the Gnome is.

In the interests of transparency, I'm actually in the latter camp. But this post is dedicated to a very good friend of mine who might literally jump for joy at the site of this post.

David the Gnome aired on Nick Jr. in the late 80s and early 90s.

The series was all about the lives of Gnomes ... which is both awesome and kinda creepy.

If you don't know why that's creepy, well, they are 6 inch people-ish things that live to be 400 years old and can read your mind and control it! Just think about that! If the Gnomes ever wanted to, they could rise up against humanity and make us their slaves! And there would be nothing we could do about it. It would be like an entire race of Yodas.

Apparently there were many different types of gnomes: Forest Gnomes, Garden Gnomes, Farm Gnomes, House Gnomes (which, frankly, I just think it's disrespectful to call some one), Dune Gnomes, Siberian Gnomes, and Gypsy Gnomes who were a persecuted minority that was frequently discriminated against. They would get help from forest creatures to travel long distances and fought against evil trolls.

But the real reason for anyone here at Mancouch to discuss David the Gnome is that he was voice by Mancouch favorite, Tom Bosley. We, here at Mancouch, are big fans of The Bosley (or The Bos to his close personal friends, like us) and as always happy to see him get work. Anything in good with The Bosley, is in good with us.

Here is the intro song. I really only suggest you watch it if you remember the show. Otherwise, it's kind of an assault on all remotely masculine thoughts and sensations you may have. This opening could possibly act as a chemical castration so handle with caution.

I told you. Don't say I didn't warn you. I think it's easy to love a show about Gnomes, but there is nothing to love about that opening sequence.

Do you miss David the Gnome?
