Men Live Longer When Marrying Educated Women

Men, if you want to live longer you should get yourself a wife with a good education. That’s the conclusion of a recent Swedish study that looked at more than 1.5 million people over a twelve year period.
Amazingly, the wife’s level of schooling is a bigger factor in a man’s risk of dying than the man’s schooling.
Researchers Robert Erikson and Jenny Torssander of Stockholm’s Swedish Institute for Social Research found that women take a lead role in the home. So if a woman is educated, she is more likely to steer the family’s lifestyle to healthier habits. The assumption is that women with schooling are more apt to listen to health messages than women with less of an education.
The study looked at 1990 census data of more than 1.5 million men and women, ages 30 to 59, along with cause of death data for the period 1991–2003. They found that men who live with a women with no high school diploma are 1.25 times more likely to die than men living with a college graduate. The study was published in the October Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
So start going after the smart girls if you know what’s good for you.

This is perfect, I've always hoped to get my sweetie to live to 40, at the rate he was going it was debatable. I've been able to limit his soda, get him to eat vegetables, and reduce his swearing in public and in the home! He will love this post...I will finally make sense to him. (take blonde's seriously, we're not all idiots! Deans list AND Chancellors list in college proves it.)

Well duh. They're less likely to do something really stupid because their wife would kill them if they tried or do that one face we simply can't argue against.
I guess I have about a 50-50 chance. She's smart but she's kind of crazy too.
Too bad university fees are rising like a motherfucking piece of well-baked (made?) bread.

Too bad with the way college tuition is going, an "educated" person is going to only be the extremely wealthy in a decade or so. It's bad now, but I'd hate to see tuition prices in 10 years. Chase Bank has me by the nuts as we speak.
But more on topic. I think these kinds of studies are cool, but in most ways useless (I don't think you need to tell guys that dating smarter girls is a better deal...). People are going to date who they want and that's USUALLY someone of the same, or higher, socioeconomic level as them. There will still be shallow assholes who go solely for the trophy wife and those gold-digging hoochies will always exist. All-in-all, this study just reaffirms a perception that most people already have.

I should be damned well imortal... Wife's a teacher. Got three daus: one with a degree in Electrical Engineering and French; one with a degree in Poly-Sci; one with a degree in Micro Biology and she is getting her Doctorate in Gennetic Engineering in Micro Biology from Emory next year.
this is a given! Hope they didn't spend too much in funding to research this.
Makes sense, if they are less intelligent or knowledgable it can be a source of tension and stress. It can be pretty stressful when you have to do all the thinking for someone else.
@SeaChaCha@xanga - Being with a dumb one can be pretty miserable. Thinking for yourself is good but it gets annoying having to continually think for someone else as well.
WTF. Why is it that there are all these things that men can do to live longer (i.e.: stare at boobs, marry smart women...), but there's jackshit for women. I realize this is Mancouch, but I still haven't seen an article posted ANYWHERE about things for women to do to live longer (other than diet bullshit). Just stating a rant...
