  • I Don't Understand The Appeal Of Lady Gaga

I don't understand the appeal of Lady Gaga.

She's kinda popular and some people can't stop talking about her, but I just don't get it. I don't even hate her, I just don't get it. I actually understand the reason why people like music I hate. That may not make sense, but it's true.

I hate the Jonas Brothers, but I understand why people like them. They are a complex marketing scheme directly targeted at the tween/preteen and child demographic (and parents like them because they know their safe because they don't swear and have purity rings!). They are a scam and they're shills, but it makes sense.

When a giant media conglomerate like Disney puts all it's power behind pushing something on children and lazy parents think it's okay because it's safe, not recognizing the damage shitty music can do to their kids, it's going to work.

But Lady Gaga, I just don't get. There seems to be no appeal there whatsoever. She just puts on some crazy hat or wig.

Her music is crappy, but not so awful that it stands out in anyway. It's just kinda boring.

Her all shtick is boring. The wigs, the outfits, all of it. It's all been done before. It's not really all that weird. It just feels like trying to be weird.

The most interesting thing about her is the internet speculation that she may be packing something a little extra in her pants. But even that, I just couldn't care less.

And then I have to hear her mentioned in columns and blog posts by otherwise respectable writers. I just don't understand why anyone cares. Let alone anyone who they themselves are interesting. Can some one explain this to me?

    What is Lady Gaga's appeal?

She looks like an alien from some distant galaxy. That's her appeal.

  • imTHEmeowMIXcat@xanga

She (really) doesn't seem to care much what others think...maybe that's it?

  • methodElevated@xanga

Her songs a pretty catchy, but her lyrics are awful.

  • Pcgecko85@xanga

She is the Marilyn Manson of pop.  People like her for being "different" and "artistic".  Too bad her music isn't different or artistic.

She and her music is not my thing. Sorry.  I can't explain the appeal.  You are right about Disney.  View just a portion of some of their shows (sitcoms) and you go away feeling like much of the focus is on the importance of getting money, having money and showing it off.  Playing pranks that hurt and demean is often done by the popular characters.  I believe it is fairly natural in our society to adore the pretty girl and shun the one with a beauty problem but in Disney shows they often make a whole show on how the popular hansom guy is forced by some circumstance to be with the unpopular girl.  They use and abuse their friends and family often for their own gain.  Deception is very popular.  Retaliation for a wrong is always necessary.  The teens sometimes yell, argue, blame and can’t get along worse than characters in some soap operas.  In my view they portray poor values in many areas.  Parents are duped.

I don't like Lady Gaga, but some of the comments that are against her piss me off (like the whole she's intersex/she's ugly/she's a man debate; so wrong and stupid) so I steer clear of those horrible insults; however, I don't get why people fawn over her so much.

She tries too hard to be "different" when her music is all the same. I guess I should respect her for trying, but really she should drop the whole "my music is high brow" schtick because it's ridiculous. She should take lessons from Bjork and Grace Jones if she wants to claim she's performance art or whatever.

I'm in love with Lady GaGa. She's the best performer since Madonna. You can disagree with me, but her performance at the VMA's was the most amazing thing I've seen since like ever. She's not classically beautiful, and I think that makes her so much more appealing. I'm sick of the bubblegum pop girls like Britney. Lady GaGa's creativity is what makes her sexy. Her music is decent, but it's her performances that show her talent.

And her real name is Stefani Germanotta. If that's not the sexiest name ever, then I don't know what is. I'd marry her in a second :)

  • Lylytha@xanga

I completely agree with you in this blog because as "poppy" as her music sounds I don't understand where she's coming from lyrically speaking.

All the songs talk about the same things even though all of the have different music to the lyrics they all say the same thing.I'd honestly pick Madonna over Lady Gaga because she's genuine, she's the reason Lady Gaga can pull off most of the things she does in all of her performances.
  • Lil_Firefly_25@xanga

I love her songs because they're catchy, and I wish I could steal some of her style (not all of it, I just wish I had more unique things...)

But I know a lot of people are like WTF, but merh.
  • Arsenic_Beauty@xanga

People are all for celebrities and performers who 'break the rules' and 'think out of the box'. Hence, the Lady Gaga phenomenon. I'm just into her songs, not her style.

  • Unfettered_Mind@xanga

@Arsenic_Beauty@xanga - she doesn't break any rules.  not sure what you're talking about.

  • chrisfina@xanga

Is it just me or does she seem like a stripper?

  • Princess_Sakurina@xanga

I love her music, and her style even though its REALLYYY outreageous and wears it with confidence and isnt afraid of who she wants to be :)

  • chelseanataliex@xanga

Her music is okay, but her appeal is her weird outfits and that she doesn't care what anyone thinks of her. But, I don't like her for either of the reasons previously mentioned.

  • RetnuhDrive@xanga

I  think she looks okay and her live performance are pretty awesome. Thats what appeals to me

  • Shy___Away@xanga

@ohsupskankk@xanga - She should have stuck with the Stefani Germannotta Band.

  • Manstration@xanga
  • BranmacFeabhail@xanga

    @Manstration@xanga - pretty much.

i just find her music catchy in the worst way.

  • Seen_More_Spine_in_Jellyfish@xanga

@chrisfina@xanga - she was stripper and a waitress before singing. I read an article about it.

I like SOME of her music, i dont like her actual album, I dont think she can sing all that well, i just like the "just dance", "poker face", and "love game" songs. Thats it. I dont see either what the big deal is. I think its funny how ppl say her random clothing style is "fashion". Im not obessed with her like some of the ppl out there. I think she is the low class verison of Gwen Stefani or more like the eccentric wanna be.

  • kirabishh@xanga

Agreed . But I do wanna know if shes a hemephrodite [spelling] ! lol

  • Mike_Malignant@xanga

first of all she is amazingly talented, she writes all her own song can play them acoustically and is amazing at singing. she made it to fame her self and went to nyu for music.

she wear real fashion not just nice clothes. she creative and stands up for what she believes vehemently. shes a real musician and artist and breathing life back into the stale pop scene. above all she writes the catchiest songs this side of pluto.
  • mcmeister89

I don't get why everyone is fawning over her either. Given, I'm not a big pop fan, never really have been. But I can at least recognize decent music or a genuine act. This girl is neither. Her music isn't all that different and neither is her style, all you need to do is look outside the pop spectrum and you'll see styles and sounds similar to hers.

I consider different to be Tom Waits' album "Real Gone" or groups like Wu-Tang Clan when they first came out. Lady GaGa's music (the sound anyways), or at least the radio hits, remind me a lot of songs like "Womanizer" or "Toxic" by Spears with a heavier dance influence.

All the new dancier stuff kind of sounds the same to me. Maybe I have a deaf ear for pop, but that's how I hear it. Gah... I'm gonna go listen to some more Black Keys and Rza.

  • Mike_Malignant@xanga

@Seen_More_Spine_in_Jellyfish@xanga -  ok what she wear is actually fashion way more then any other celebrities. it haute couture, clothes when its still art before its dumbed down for everyone else. and i dont know if you heard her sing besides the radio but her voice is amazing an her style of songs are wide. if you heard any of her unreleased tracks or songs before she was famous you would see what im talking about. unlike most of the "other people out there" she actually has substance and speaks her minds and stands up for causes plus she makes amaizngly catchy songs

  • supaflychikn@xanga

i like her music because it's slutty and catchy. and when she's not all ...weird looking, i think she's hot. aside from that, your guess is as good as mine. i'm not sure what point wearing a cloak made of kermit the frogs is pushing.

  • deadlyworld@xanga

I saw her on SNL and thought she was a tranny.
