  • World Series 2009

The Yankees Win! The Yankees Win! The-e-e-e-e-e-e Yankees Win!

That was the cry heard last night as the New York Yankees officially advanced to the World Series to face the Philadelphia Phillies.

It should be an interesting series. I think this is the first time in a few years that the team advancing from each league is truly the best team in that league.

The match-up everyone is looking forward to most is the Phillies starting pitching vs. the Yankees lineup, but perhaps what's more important is just how much of an improvement Brad Lidge is over Joe Nathan.

In the ALCS and throughout the season the Yankees made a habit of knocking out the starting pitchers and then wreaking havoc on the bullpen. However, in the ALCS this wasn't as important because worst case scenario they had to face Joe Nathan as the closer and they knew they could beat him. Brad Lidge will be tougher.

Some other top story lines heading into the series:

The Phillies are the defending champs looking to win back to back championships for the first time since the Yankees did it in 1998-2000.

The Yankees are looking for redemption after a decade of spending the big bucks and having no championships to show for it.

A-rod has somehow turned around his October fortunes and become the most clutch hitter in baseball this post-season.

Will the Yankees pitching be able to contain the Phillies lineup which is the first to feature legitimate threats to go deep every time that they've face this post season?

Will Brad Lidge continue his amazing performances like he did last year or will he implode like he does every so often in the regular season?

How long can Mariano Rivera continue to be the best closer in baseball when he only has one pitch?

Will either team's bullpen be able to hold it together? Will either team have a legitimate setup man step up?

Can the Yankees really win with a 3-man rotation?

Can C.C. Sabbathia continue his amazing run and will it be enough to compete with that vaunted Phillies roatation?

All I know is I'm excited! This looks to be a great series.

Who do you think is going to win? Phillies or Yankees?
