Have you noticed that in most songs, especially hip hop, if the song is sad and slow, it's mostly tragic songs about the girl, but when its fast and bumping, its about how sexy she is and how they want her in bed?
Weird huh?
I remembered a commercial a while back about how girls are so vulnerable to stuff from the media (I think it was a Girls Scout commercial).
It's true, females are so much a target to the media, they want them to do this and that without giving them second thought, and I think it's unfair.
But....
How come the media show us men as brain dead, violent, horny, no good, psychopaths?
This is completely unfair...
Females may have been told to "look better", but males are shown to "be like this...you'll get the money, women, fast cars".
The media is not helping us males. They're making us look bad.
People act like men don't have feelings, they don't care about what goes on, they just want money, women and power. That may be true to some men, but what about us who sees this and knows they're not like that, but people think they are?
We have to show the media that we're not like that. We do care.
We want to live a happy life, we want someone to love, we want to know that we're glad that someone enjoys being with us.
But the media wants us to look bad?
Media...what the hell?
Listen...there are men out there who do a lot more than what you (the media) has shown.
We have men who are so smart, they can invent machines or practice medicine to benefit mankind. We have men who spend billions of dollars to help those in need. We have men who didn't have fathers, who grew up raising their kids and showing them what being a father is all about. We have teenage boys, who decided not to pick up guns and drugs and knives, and instead spend time with their family, help out with the community and even graduate from high school or college. We have boys who don't get in trouble in school and respect their family and friends. We have baby boys who are destined to do great things and have at least someone taking care of them so they can live life.
I'm not being pro male or anything...I just think it's time the men who are doing good things deserve their thanks.
To all the males and females who do great things, help their family and friends and communities...Thanks :)
Mancouch Says: First of all, the media is not a monolith it is a vast variety of entities. Secondly these media outlets are dominated (both on the creative and business sides) by men. Thirdly nearly all media is targeted towards men. Fourth, given two and three there are a vast array of portrayals of men across the media spectrum. It just seems a bit pus to complain about how men are portrayed when men have all the power.

I didn't even bother to read the rest of this. I think people are mixing up Hip Hop with Rap and yes there is a difference, and most Hip Hop/Rap songs don't always talk about fucking women, how they lost their girl or how they cheated on them, knocking over liquor stores, killing J-Rod in a drive-by because he was set trippin' or anything else the media, and everyone else, makes it out to be.
Well, the media is dominated by straight men and we're the major market. We buy more magazines, we watch more talk shows, and I wouln't be surprised if we blog more. It's nothing personal, they're just trying to market towards the audience they think they'll be able to sell more to.
@Duke6932@xanga - I think they're mixing up, hip hop, rap, and also, r&b.....sappy love songs sung slowly by a singular male are almost always r&b.
@Duke6932@xanga - @algebraicdisco@xanga - I was kinda using hip hop and rap as an example. By the way, I think they need to change the meaning of hip and rap.
Hip hop = music genre
Rap = vocals to hip hop, not singing
gotta say.. your profile picture being a jail cell isn't helping your case.
other than that, I agree with you.
but then again a lot of men have these "macho" complexes, so its the media plus these little boys who try to act "big" which "proves" it.
:sigh: thank God I found my boy. that's it for me! haha
@striemmy@xanga - Tell me about it...during those days, men and women are out working, and housewives are often home during those times.
@Inchored@xanga - True, I should have said they're making EVERYONE look bad.
@BlobOfGoo@xanga - Yeah, I guess you can say its our fault the media shows things that they show now a days.
@RazorBladeParade@xanga - The bar code, now that's the true mark of the beast.
@QuantumStorm@xanga - @Parsimony@xanga - 'Nuff said, you guys *thumbs up*
@APergo - Exactly, it should be a form of entertainment, not a way to example things in the real world.
@xEmox_xBabyx@xanga - I
guess its true that good men are hard to fine, all the guys I hang out
are like that...only a few aren't like that. I'm a good guy...but I
don't have a girlfriend, so maybe I'm too nice?
@snapeful@xanga - Umm...yeah...that's the thing I'm talking about.
@goblinsinthemirror@xanga - Yeah, I mean, you can be really attractive and a great person at the same time. No need to out balance one another.
@tokyoexpressman@xanga -
Yeah, I feel the same way too, but the weird thing is I expected a
woman to post this before I did. One of them probably did, but it was
an older post. But yeah, I feel woman should have more say on this.
@erahslover@xanga - To
me, it completely doesn't matter who controls the media via majority,
they're all guilty to me for portraying us in negative ways.
@raspberryjade@xanga - Lol, yeah, I kinda uploaded that pic for another reason, but you're statement is true. But i feel the media is feeding that macho crap idea to them.
@Illegally_Invited@xanga - probably.. that's why guys who aren't like that need to find ways to shine through! you shouldn't have to, but such is life :\
@raspberryjade@xanga - If only I can find a way to stand out better than pig headed guys, then I'd have no problem with it.
The mancouch disclaimer has a point but men shouldn't be portrayed as dumbasses even if they are the "power group."
@Illegally_Invited@xanga - Not just "housewives." Men stay home as well at take care of the house depending on the family arrangement.
@Illegally_Invited@xanga - yeah i was just kidding lol :P if you hadn't noticed i'm a girl
@goblinsinthemirror@xanga - Most shows where there is a hot wife and an undesirable husband are comedies. You can actually identify a comedy by this peering because it's so strange it is funny. In drama shows, action and in real life you never see anything like that. I agree to some point that these shows are a way to lower women's standards considering women have such high standards. I don't agree however with the media trying to tell women to be housewives because in all shows there is always some episode or episodes promoting female independence and strength plus that would make producers look sexist.
@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - True true
@snapeful@xanga - I know, I can tell from your pic. Lol.
The only women that I know who have a bad view of men in general have that viewpoint not because of the media, but because of the way they have been treated by the men in their lives.
However, it is silly for anyone to think that you can lump any group of people, no matter how they are grouped, into one entity and think that they are all alike. That is the kind of thinking that forms prejudices and causes real problems for everyone involved, and generally helps zero people along the way.
I think that kind of thinking needs to stop. People need to stop and think when they say "they're all like that" or any equivalent of such a phrase when speaking about a group of people. What are you really saying? People are individuals, not groups. It is true that people can be influenced by others, but in the end we are all individuals with our own ways of thinking and doing things and viewing things.
I never agree with the women who lump all men into one category as if they all share one brain. And I don't agree with the men who do the same to women. I know there are good men out there. I've seen them, I've known them.
The only way that people can possibly understand each other and know each other as human beings, rather than as members of specific groups, is to let go of our pre-conceived notions and prejudices.
But, this has turned into a rant over something that the author was likely not even talking about, so I think I will just step down off of my soap box and walk away. :p Sorry for the long rant that was probably off topic, anyway.
@Illegally_Invited@xanga - :P Haha. But I'd say I agree. It's not fair for the media to split men into two categories of power hungry, asshole, etc. versus the.... loser nice guy :/ Usually the alpha-male white guy (sorry to bring race into this) is the guy who's the main heartthrob, asshole, etc etc whereas the kid in a wheelchair (like in Glee or Malcolm in the Middle) is just the sidekick who can't get any girls.
@snapeful@xanga - I obviously fall into the sidekick category.
@Illegally_Invited@xanga - it's not mutually exclusive
@snapeful@xanga - True
The media hates everyone. The entertainment industry is fueled by one sad, jaded, drug-abusing former porn director.
