I was talking to a girl I know and she told me, "You're so funny!"
Guys love to hear that they are funny. We all know that when girls say you are funny... they are really saying, "You are so amazing, I wish I could be with you right now at this very instant."
But then later on, the same girl casually mentioned that this other loser guy was also very funny.
*insert sound of scratching record *
WTF?!?!
There are two possibilities here:
- The other guy is actually funny and she wants to sleep with him too.
- The other guy is not funny, and she has no sense of humor.
Either way, it's a lose-lose. (I suppose there's also the small chance that saying, "You're so funny" isn't the same thing as saying, "Take me now!" But let's just ignore that.)
Anyway I was so offended... the other guy wasn't remotely funny. I mean, he is one of those guys who tries really hard to be funny and is always cracking jokes... but his jokes are terrible. He is an affront to comedy. To be lumped together with him as both being funny isn't even a complisult... it's an outright insult!
Anyway after she said that, I realized I could never have any interest in her. The instant she said that he was funny, I was incredibly turned off.
I had no idea I was wired like that - I was as surprised by my reaction as anyone! I guess my brain thought: what's the point in trying to impress a lady, if she has no taste?
Guys: when a girl tells you that you're funny, do you care at all?
Ladies: if you think a guy is funny, does that make you more attracted to him?

sometimes saying someone is funny is like saying lol. i just have nothing better to say.
while you may have been legitimately funny, maybe she had nothing else to say, so she just threw it in there that he was funny as well.

"you're so funny" does not equal "lol". for most people, anyway. but that's beside the point. no it's not. but, to answer your question - a guy's sense of humor is always a plus on the attractive scale, but it doesn't automatically mean "you are amazing, i wish i could be with you right now, this instant" (although, I'm sure that's what some girls mean). for me, it just means "i think you're hilarious." pretty straight-forward, eh?
i like to say "youre funny" to replace "haha"
and sometimes i just throw in a "looking" after that statement : )

usually, when I say someone is funny, I'm sincere about it. Unless they put me in an awkward position where they make me name the qualities I like about them and I pretty much answer with BS cause I don't like much about them ?...

but yeah, I love funny guys. Probably one of the biggest turn-ons, in my opinion. A good sense of humor is key in a relationship for me. Otherwise, I won't possibly be as interested if I'm cracking all the jokes and he can't contribute, unless he coincidentally does something stupid where everyone laughs. But I doubt that would happen every time there's an awkward silence lmao

I love a guy that's funny! But I have a twisted sense of humor, so sometimes it's hard to find. My husband is funny though, but I don't think any guy will ever be as funny as my dad (so obviously it doesn't mean "I want you" it just means "you're funny")
Being funny makes someone laugh, which is a form of smiling, and a smile means you're happy and you definitely can't be with someone who can't make you happy. You need someone that's funny.

When I say, "You're so funny!" I mean, "You're so funny!" there's no "You are so amazing, I wish I could be with you right now at this very instant." & sometimes when a guy tries to be funny but isn't all that funny... makes him, well... funny. To me at the least.
I'm going to have to say....no. I mean I love a guy who can make me laugh and has a great sense of humor, but I've met and know plenty of guys who are funny but I wouldn't date them nor do I find them 'attractive' in the sex/relationship sense; they're friends and that's it.
It does help to break the ice and make women feel more comfortable around a guy who is funny though, men should never assume that just because they get a laugh from a lady, means her panties are about to drop. Common misconception lol

Also, I had no idea that guys really took that to heart when we say, "You're funny." I think it depends on how she says it. If she playfully touches you while saying it, then she's flirting with you. But if there is no touching, batting of the eyelashes or twirling of hair, then she's just thinks you're funny. But that's not so bad right? Girls love a guy with a sense of humor.

I always think of girls as usually being sarcastic since most of the ones I know are either stuck up and just plain bitches, so I learned not to care whether she thinks I'm funny or not.

If it you were really funny, she would do what any normal person would do: laugh. If she had to say "you're so funny," then you ain't funny.

when a chick says that, or when i say it i guess, i can mean a couple different things.
1-you are actually funny. (i think a lot of things are funny, so making me laugh isn't hard.)
2-you aren't funny, but you're really attractive and i must have you now!
3-you aren't funny and i feel sorry for you. you may or may not have just made an ass of yourself, or made everyone feel awkward. you may or may not have an otherwise good personality. but i want to make you feel like SOMEONE cares, so i'll give you a confidence boost.
and yes, if a guy is funny then i'm way more likely to be attracted to him. but being funny usually comes with social skills too, which usually means he's more confident, and i really love that. like others said, it's a good ice breaker too, and i can't know if i like someone unless i talk to them. and if they make me laugh right off the bat, i'm more likely to stick around or come back for seconds.
