  • "Guys Aren't Really Ready For My Intellect"

I was just out having lunch when I overheard one man say this to another. I didn't hear the rest of the conversation, but from the tone I'm guessing that he was repeating something a woman said.

Beautiful women are stereotypically portrayed as not being too bright. We've all heard the dumb blonde jokes. It's almost as if we believe that the more beautiful a woman becomes, the dumber she becomes (like Chameleon from that Anthony Piers book... does anyone get that reference or am I just that much of a dork?). But is this really what men want?

Do men want a bombshell that's also an empty shell? Or an intelligent woman?

    i want an intelligent man

  • la_faerie_joyeuse@xanga

Most men want the empty bombshell.

But a significant portion of men would like a women who's both beautiful and intelligent.

Hence, I've never had a shortage of men falling at my feet.

    Intelligence is sexy

I'm sure men don't want to be upstaged by a women, but they would get annoyed with the lack of interesting and thought provoking conversation.

@WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga - I think you said it best.

I dont see why they fear intelligence. I mean as long as someone doesnt try to rub their education in someone's face (ie: "I'm smarter than you" or "I got a PAID education, you went to free school & no college"), it shouldnt be a big deal. I hate that. A degree isnt a guarantee. It may give a little omph but if you're a pompous ass, no one will hire you because you'll probably create a hostile work environment.

I work with a woman like that. She's an intern & she walks around acting like a manager & telling people what to do. I dont believe that just because you're in a higher position, you're better than someone. She comes around repeating directions or business details we were briefed on hours before she even got to work & she gives orders & does nothing. It's only retail so this job is not that serious or pays that much for her to act like a Donald Trump wannabe. We cant wait for the summer to end so she will go to another store. LOL

when is a guy gonna comment on this? =P

but yeah, most guys want the boobs AND brains. luckily i was blessed with both of them.

  • naguyin@xanga

@WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga - Agreed. I do hate being upstaged... it's the biggest blow to me... more than the physical me. lol

    @ROCKtheB0ATx@xanga - Now.

Deffinatly want a bombshell with some force inside

  • kindersczenen@xanga

Okay, as a woman, I wouldn't want to date a total babe with nothing in her head.  As a woman, this would make things even worse, because I'd probably just have sex with her and have her scratching her head about why the other side of the bed was empty like 3 seconds after the sex was over.  "Oh, honey--I've got an emergency, uh, Stooges marathon to watch!"

With men--maybe it's totally different, but I can't believe it.  I CAN believe that a man would want an intelligent woman, but not necessarily MORE intelligent.  I mean, a man can feel pride about being Dr. and Mrs. Shemp Howard, but not Dr. and Mr. Shemp Howard. If he's just as intelligent, but doesn't have the "papers" to go with it, he may not give a shit.  But if he's at a party, and people are treating him like the "Francine" of the party by pushing him in the pool so all his purse tampons get wet, I could see being a wee bit pissed.

Of course guys want intelligent women. Would you want to date a dumb guy? Men and women aren't all that different, even though society tends to place emphasis on our differences, instead of similarities. (FYI, according to research, both sexes are a lot more alike than different)

I had a conversation about this with my brother one time. I think it all comes down to how young girls learn and develop certain traits from positive reinforcement as they grow up. So, for example, if a young, pretty girl is getting attention and being treated nicely because of her looks, she will learn to place more value and effort into her looks as a result, and neglect to develop other traits/characteristics. Because these are the traits that are rewarding her behavior, she will learn to exhibit these behaviors more often. Same goes in the other direction: If an average-looking girl is getting attention for her grades (as opposed to her looks), then she will learn to place more value and effort into her studies/intellect. Her behavior is rewarded through positive reinforcement.
But, of course, like everything else in life, there are other factors and circumstances to be considered into the equation as well that I haven't mentioned (personality, dispositions, situations, personal values/beliefs, the way one is raised, etc.)

Not all stereotypes are true. There are women out there who are intelligent just as they are beautiful.

Guys always get annoyed when I pwn them intellectually.

  • colormethespian@xanga

    @crystal_air@xanga - Ha! ...nice.

I agree with moooost people on here, and even if I don't know exactly what men want, I'd say I can gauge it better than some based on my eight brothers...

I really don't think guys want a stupid girl if they're looking for a serious relationship/future wife... I can't see any guy seeking out a more intelligent woman than they because they'd feel demeaned or like a part of their role as a protector was being overturned, but I can see a guy requesting a woman of equal or slightly lesser understanding of the general knowledge.

Believe it or not, I think, in this case, you really can have your cake and eat it too. There are intelligent women who are attractive, you just have to peel off a layer of botox and dive through some silicone before you find their brain. :) Granted, that's not the case with all ladies, some of them are beautiful and have their "smarts" on display, but others...it's just not obvious at first.

would like a bombshell with a mind..where can i find one? thinks a pretty woman is raised to be retarded i mean..think about it...when does she have to think for herself ?

  • Neowind@xanga

I think as humans we're quick to label people and things and tend to use generalization a whole lot than it needs to be.  Emptied bomb-shell?

I don't disagree that there are some dumb women (and men) out there, but it doesn't mean their stupidity on certain subject makes them a flaw or broken goods in society. Funny how some people learn more, yet they become more close minded.

But back to the question, I think intellectual or not, there has to be a certain humor with the girl that I like. And I don't mind a girl who doesn't know better, but I would hate to get with a girl who is unwilling to learn.

  • Neowind@xanga

@KassieintheSkywithDiamonds@xanga - So does some women... it just means they're competitive.

  • xjadersx@xanga

Every man wants something different. A lot of men who want to show off their skills and that they can get a beautiful woman would go for the bombshell. The one's who want a meaningful relationship with someone they can talk to would go for a girl who has some intelligence. Although I think they want a girl who is not as smart as them. Whenever I am right about something my boyfriend tries to make me wrong. ><

  • Neowind@xanga
  • mathematicalbagpiper@xanga

I'd prefer a highly intelligent woman to compete with me. Haha.

I have a 160+ IQ (varies a few points depending on which standardized intelligence test used), so you know, I don't want a dim bulb for sure!!!
  • BranmacFeabhail@xanga

    lol Xanth!

most guys say they want intelligence but when actually faced with it really aren't too thrilled.  some guys do really like smart women, but...in general (in my experience), they don't really go for obvious intelligence, or much intelligence at all.

a guy has definitely asked me to dumb myself down a little so he feels better. he didn't last long.

  • buddy71@xanga

no empty head wanted by this guy.  i have no problem with her being smarter. looks may get you in the door, but the mind will keep you there.

@ROCKtheB0ATx@xanga - "but yeah, most guys want the boobs AND brains."  not me, but i have never considered myself in the  "most guys" catagory.  she has to have a brain, the rest is just fluff.

  • mZdejavuZ@xanga

@Neowind@xanga - "Funny how some people learn more, yet they become more close minded." Very interesting perspective... So true! Maybe because the older we become and the more experiences we have, the more opinions we form and therefore believe to be true... which necessarily aren't always true. ... Thank you, I would have to agree with your opinion as well.

  • saxy_sooner@xanga

I think it depends on the guy. The smarter and more secure a guy is in himself, the smarter he'll want his girl to be.

  • buddy71@xanga

@BranmacFeabhail@xanga - my guess you have been around the wrong guys.    the guys i know do want and have smart women.  and yes some are really good looking, but most are just average.

  • C0ll33Ncorps@xanga

I pwn my boyfriend at Jeopardy every night.
    Just sayin'.
