I honestly wonder if sometimes, people just throw darts at a dartboard of ideas to come up with their newest countdown ideas. This didn't really prove me wrong.
This is
Gunaxin's "Top 40 Badass Movies of the Last 10 Years." I'll copy and paste their qualifiers:
"
I’m sure you’ve come across this kind of movie. The one where right from the beginning you know it will be know no-holds barred. The gritty, in-your-face, relentless, gasp-for-air kinda films that can come from many genres, be it horror, action, suspense, or what have you. Wanton and careless disregard for life is often a common trait throughout. Violence, gore, cursing, and multiple headshots, yeah they’re here too. And you normally have a single character whose extreme attitudes and behavior are admirable. Think classics from the Schwarzenegger oeuvre, such as from his Commando days. Other classics include The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Scarface, Dirty Harry, and many of John Woo’s earlier works such as The Killer or Hard Boiled.
I’ll grant you, these aren’t always the best movies from an artistic standpoint, but they can be highly entertaining. And here are some of the best examples from the last decade. Sure, there are better action movies out there. And sure there are better overall movies. But these kind of movies make you think the individuals are just Jack Bauer/Chuck Norris-style badass."
You can look at the list itself for all forty movies, but the top five is as follows:
5) The Bourne Identity
4) Fight Club
3) City of God
2) Gladiator
1) 300At first, I thought the list was a little bit dated, but after checking the date (published Monday), I realized:
The Dark Knight was left off the list. Inexcusable. I also initially panicked that
The Matrix was left off, but it's ineligible because it came out a couple months too early.
What do you think is the most badass movie of the last ten years?

Hm, I've not seen City of God, but I'll look into it. I think the newest Batman should be up there, Heath's performance was f*cking amazing.
Gladiator was pretty badass.
I loved the Bourne Identity.
Really? City of God? I mean, it's a great movie, I just don't think of it as badass. But I guess it is when you think about it.
And where was Hot Fuzz? Just because it's funny doesn't mean it isn't badass! I mean, an old woman gets drop-kicked in the face! How badass is that!
ok...
And 300 as the most badass? ...I'd put Sin City there probably. I guess...each to their own.
The Dark Knight should be #1 on the list-I don't know about 300. The entire Matrix series should be there too
Fight Club should have been number one AND two.
I've never even heard of City Of God.
And no Dark Knight? You're very right. Inexcusable.
=)
What ?!
clive owen is my fucking favorite. and fight club ftw.
city of god
Fight Club is pretty badass...
Why is Boondock Saints so low on that list. That is the standard by which all Irishmen should live by!
I love City of God, but I wouldn't think of it as a "badass" movie. That's strange.
fight club!!!
i need to check some of those movies out. bookmarking time. lol.
xo
The Dark Knight such a KICK ASS movie. Love Sin City, Fight Club and The Bourne Identity.
@C0ll33Ncorps@xanga - I'm glad someone agrees =P
I didn't think of City of God as a badass man's movie the way I thought Fight Club or Gladiator was. But it was still an amazing film.
i like 300 :O!
how could the dark knight not be there :( tst tst
@C0ll33Ncorps@xanga - I agree whole-heartedly! Fight Club is the most badass movie of all time.
300 is mah shit. When I saw the title, I was like "If 300 isn't on here, I'm going to flipthehellout." But it's number uno. FOR A REASON BABY!
@crystal_air@xanga - hell yeah boondock saints
where is 4 brothers or never back down
300 is definitely deserving of a top spot. The plot is a bunch of badass mother's fight an army 3513511 times their size.
@darksoulreverted@xanga - I was actually thinking about Four Brothers when I read this.
21 was a badass movie? Seriously?
I don't really agree with the order of the list, but I think that would be the top 40 ( minus 21 ) in no particular order. Old Country for Old Man and Old Boy were probably one of the most unexpected flicks.
