Watching Chick Flicks?
I love movies - simple as that.
I love movies so much that I am willing to do what many other guys wouldn’t dream of doing – watching a “chick flick”.

And I have found that most of them aren’t half bad, and many are better than some of my favorite movies. I’m not talking about the nauseating feel-good bawl-like-a-baby kinda movie, but those ones that you know look interesting but you refuse to watch them because they are classified as “chick flicks.”
Of course I love the "guy" movies - Role Models, Transformers, and all the Will Ferrell movies but is it so wrong to wanna see a chick flick every now and then? It doesn't make me any less of a man... at least I think it doesn't.
I have seen tons of these movies, and love them, but whenever I recommend them to a guy friend there’s always some macho alpha-male response telling me to leave that crap for the women.
Well this is my declaration. YOU’RE WRONG!
What does Mancouch say? Is it really such a crime to like movies that are considered chick flicks? Or am I taking it a little too far when they told me to get in touch with my feminie side?

I LOVED Mamma Mia. Does that count as a chick flick? Probably. Then again, I'm a huge ABBA fan and watched it mainly for the music, though Pierce Brosnan sucked some major ass with his singing.
Once again, it's personal preference. Watch whatever the hell movies appeal to you.
If you're seriously watching Phat Girlz and Enchanted, then yes you're taking it too far.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - You know.. I was going to see that movie.. but I decided to stay home and staple my hand to the wall instead.
I'm not a fan of chick flicks but I get occasionally roped into seeing them because of my girlfriends. I don't really consider Mean Girls to be THAT much of a chick flick, but more of a teen comedy. Regardless, it's hilarious!!! Phat Girlz also. Mo'nique is one of my favorite comedians. Uptown Girls was a bit more emotional but it wasn't half bad either.
@KissKisstime2die@xanga - Haha. There are no telling how many times I went to the "sing along" sessions in the theaters. I know pretty much every ABBA song by heart, so I didn't even need the on-screen lyrics. Every time it was a jam-packed crowd full of people having a good time, singing off-key, oh it was a riot.
Ever consider Netflicking it?
I watch chick flicks some of them aren't that bad. I don't really mind.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - There's no way the movie would even arrive. My sister clogs up the entire nextflix account for the whole family with the movies she wants. I'd go rent it, but I am poor. I had like, at least 926 dollars in savings, but due to my luck, it was stolen. So.. I need to start saving all over again, to get the Hell out of this estrogen filled house.
@KissKisstime2die@xanga - Ugh. Estrogen-filled house. I know the feeling, been there, done that. Sucks ass doesn't it? It also sucks ass that you can't watch anything you want. Must get your goat.
are Rom-Coms considered chickflicks? coz I sometimes watch those.
I had no interest whatsoever in watching Sex and the City tho-
I love it when guys can watch chick flicks too!
Well I am a chick and the only way I would see any chick flick is if I was kidnapped and forced to watch . I prefer the rolling of a severed head or blood splatter within the first 5 minutes of a movie or I am out of there
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - yep. it was also one of my sisters that stole my money. *shrug* but what am I gonna do? she won't pay me back, obviously no one will. so.. yeah. sucks to high hell.
@KissKisstime2die@xanga - Has the statute of limitations to file theft charges ran out? Even so, how about bringing a civil lawsuit to recover the money? Ever given those things any thought?
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - My parents would fucking kill me. No joke. My dad got so mad at me a couple of days before the 4th, and was like. "get the hell out."
So. I did.. kinda slept on the street for a few nights. I've done it before, so I know how to survive.
eeuuugh..some of those movies up there were really annoying when my older sisters forced me to watch with them. Some chick flicks are okay though, like He's Just Not That Into You but its all about preference really.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - Ahah his singing was hilarious... and I think it is pretty chick flicky.
I do not think there is anything wrong with a guy watching "chick flicks" seeing as it's hard to help what you like!
Be true to yourselves!
If people make fun of you then they're stuck up, or not comfortable with themselves.
@xjadersx@xanga - It was hilarious. I burst out in tears laughing thinking "where the fuck did they get THIS guy" once he burst out into song. LOL.
Genie says you need to get in touch with your masculine side....
I don't think theres anything wrong with guys watching chick flicks. its just like how some girls like to watch full on action packed movies with cars and guns and all that.
You sir/ma'am, are a hermaphrodite when it comes to movies.
the only reason "chick flicks" are such a non-manly thing to do is because society perceives it that way.
I watch them if there's nothing else on or if I get dragged to see it. The problem with me is that I find so many holes in the plotlines or irrational behavior or something that makes me want to yell at the TV because the main character is making it harder on herself for the sake of good drama. "Jesus Christ, just break up with the asshat and go back to the good guy already!"
My girl friends keep pointing out that that usually happens anyways and that chick flicks are for emotional sympathy/release and not problem solving, but I can't help it; not solving problems directly bugs me too much.
Also I still hate The Notebook. Not because it's a chick flick, but because Rachel McAddams totally screws that one guy over when she bails on him to go back to Ryan Gosling. I mean, c'mon the guy wasn't a jackass, he was a good guy who loved her and was going to marry her. And she bailed on him. That's fucked up, man.
Guilty pleasure. Its like playing with little nieces and cousins in the sandbox outside. You're having fun, kids are hilarious... but you don't want your friends to find out or there to be any photo/video evidence.
I've probably seen them all. I catch myself laughing to hard I'll shut it off and go pop in a Stanley Kubrick film or some obscure French romantic thriller or random zombie movie...
But yeah... guilty as charged.
PS : as a former animation art-school student and all around cartoon enthusiast, enchanted had some of THE best 2d-traditional animation in it that has come out of the Disney camp since Lilo and Stitch!
You're awesome! :] I don't see anything wrong with a guy watching chick flicks either.
