  • Being Bad at Sports

When you hear "bachelor party," you probably think strippers and general debauchery. My friend Paul, meanwhile, is sort of a low-key guy, so his bachelor party was better suited to his wants and needs.

So, um, yeah, we had it at a bowling alley. I had a really good time. I also bowled really well, which, lest you think I am all cocky about it, I will readily admit my 196 was largely based on luck. Paul also did reasonably well. Our other 11 companions...eh, not so much. Paul's best man and brother Matt thought bowling would be something the lot of guys would be good at since, well, a lot of them are older and have bowled a bit in their day. Matt thought wrong.

Thankfully, we had fun despite our collective bowling woes. Paul's dad was kinda embarrassed he didn't crack 100, though. He kept mentioning it the whole night, in fact, which made me feel bad. As a man, it's often hard to do something that makes you look less than perfect. I credit Barack Obama for handling his poor showing at the lanes as well as he did. I probably would have held a press conference to say I was withdrawing my bid for President and apologized to the youth of America.

Does being bad at sports make you less of a man?
