The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.
Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never gave much thought what it meant. I just thought it was some cold-blooded shit to say to a motherfucker before I popped a cap in his ass. I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice. See now I'm thinkin', maybe it means you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9 Milimeter here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could mean you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. Now I'd like that. But that shit ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd.
-----
That has to be one of the greatest quotes in movie history.
What does it mean?
Some cold-blooded shit to say to a motherfucker before you pop a cap in his ass
You need power (like a 9 milimeter) in order to protect the righteous in the valley of darkness
The world is selfish and evil
The world isn't weak; people are, and become the tyranny of evil men
that IS one of the best quotes ever from a movie. i love that movie, QT is one of the best directors ever in the history of fim and the people he had in that movie were incredible.
that is my favorite quote ever. i can say it whenever asked. lol.
xo
Funny story, the bible quote there is actually QT misquoting a misquote from a martial arts film. Still, definitely one of my favorite monologues on film.
The Bible: a book full of misogyny, homophobia, genocide, homicide, bigotry, hatred. What a disgusting book. I don't understand how people can believe in such a piece of shit book.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - For the record, Pulp Fiction heavily alters the quote to suit its purposes. The fabricated portions are actually based on a quote from Japanese martial artist Sonny Chiba. A similar line is quoted in Modesty Blaise, a book that John Travolta's character is seen with twice in the movie.
Yeah I remember this not being in the bible... but then I remember everyone going and looking in their bible FOR it. Thus, utilizing a faulty sense of logic we can make a connection between an upswing in conversion rates of Christians and Tarantino altering the bible to make it sound much cooler than it is.
And the best quote in the movie is not this one rather is when Ving Rhames is mad at Bruce Willis not throwing the fight and says:
"If Butch goes to Indochina, I want a nigger waiting in a bowl of rice ready to pop a cap in his ass."
Ha! That quote is the best shit ever. I used to mutter it all the time thus scaring the shit out of my dogs. Concidentally, one of the was named Vincent Vega... Great times...
This is classic!
One of the many reasons that I LOVE Pulp Fiction!!!
that movie is great and has loads of symbolizim in it!! i love quentin terintino!! he's awesome!!
@mathematicalbagpiper@xanga - Obviously, you've only done a cursory reading of the bible if that. Maybe I should ask what bible have you read to be fair. The country you live in is representative of all that you accused the bible of. You're probably proud of your land that love huh?
@dknows2 - I'm FAR FROM an American patriot. I've read the Bible in many different translations several times over, and I come to the same conclusion every time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulp_Fiction_(film)#Jules.27s_Bible_passageIn any case, the movie has significant doses of misogyny, homicide, bigotry, and hatred - so it seems very appropriate to be quoted. It was voted the fourth greatest movie quote of all time in a fan poll:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3362603.stm
