  • Twitterers Make Fun of Republican Congressman LOLcat-Style

Politicians should not use Twitter. It is a bad idea. Politicians for the most part are not the smartest people in the room and are usually not particularly adept at technology. For some reason these people have all decided that their way to catch up in terms of technology is to use Twitter. Which allows them to fart out any stupid idea that pops into their head immediately and publicly.

You can see where this is going. It doesn't end well. There have already been a litany of Twitter related scandals, and even more hilarious examples of stupidity from the people running our country and our states.

One particular case of such stupidity has landed the author of the tweet on the daily show and various blogs throughout the internet maligning him. I am speaking, of course, about Republican Representative Pete Hoekstra from the 2nd district (the fighting 2nd!) of the great state of Michigan. Here is the tweet in question:

"Iranian twitter activity similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut down in the House."

Yes, that's right. The Republicans whining about the Democrats shutting down an energy debate on Twitter is exactly like the Iranians risking their lives to fight for their right to have their votes count.

This idiotic tweet resulted in a rush of mocking via Twitter and Peter Hoekstra, a previously relatively unknown Congressman became his own internet meme. Encapsulated in the appropriately named hoekstraisameme.com which has cataloged the mocking tweets in LOLcat form. The idea is to name something a rather banal and mundane event and make a grandiose comparison. Let's look at some of what they've got:

Can you come up with your own Hoekstra meme?
