  • My 5 Most Irritating TV Characters

Let's start off by saying that I really don't watch a lot of television, but the shows I do watch I watch religiously.  Now I'm a pretty easy going guy, so it takes an awful lot to annoy the hell out of me.  So you know you're in trouble when you're on one of my favorite shows and I can't wait for you to get off the screen so someone more interesting can do and say something more exciting.  These are the five most personally irritating TV characters who I could easily live without.

    Ana Lucia - Lost

In my last post about my Lost-induced insomnia, I discussed how addicted I am to the show.  I'm currently a little more than halfway through season two, and though the excitement had waned for a while, things started picking back up again with the Lockdown episode.  Anyway, one of the reasons why I'm not so into season two is Ana Lucia.  She's just irritating, and I'm not exactly sure why - though it might have something to do with the fact that she's a grumpy, bossy, gun-loving bitch who killed Shannon.  I have no idea if she dies later on (please don't ruin it for me), but it would be a death that I certainly looked forward to.

    Jenna - 30 Rock

There is a limited number of television programs that I consider good enough to dedicate the time and energy it takes to watch every single episode.  30 Rock is one of those programs.  Unfortunately, Jenna is one of the main characters on that program and has been in most of those episodes.  Sure she has her moments, and watching her and Tracy compete over everything can be fun, but generally I consider her a giant waste of time.  It doesn't help that there's another naive and incompetent character on the show (Kenneth) who is actually a whole lot funnier than Jenna.  In fact, I think the show would be better if they just dressed him up in a blonde wig and had him play Jenna.

    Kelly - The Office

It started as a pretty good gag, but now Kelly just gets on my nerves.  Sure it used to be funny that she hit on everything and got used by Ryan twice, etc, etc...but at this point Kelly just seems useless.  I guess it's not so much what she does that's irritating (although she does talk incessantly), but how she sounds that makes it so awful.  Her voice is so grating that listening to her does for your ears what smoking does for your lungs.  I'm pretty sure that by the the time The Office is off the air I'll be deaf just from listening to Kelly speak.  I actually had a similar problem with an English teacher in high school.  Her class was fine, but I had to drop it because her voice was causing my ear drums to decay at an alarming rate.  I even had a doctors note to prove it.

The Guests - The Daily Show/Colbert Report

I won't go out of my way to watch The Daily Show or the Colbert Report, but if I'm not doing anything else and I'm near a TV I'll definitely sit and watch them.  The first part of the show is always hilarious and that's actually how I get a lot of my news, but I hate when they bring guests on.  Granted, they aren't really characters, but remember that I don't watch a lot of television so I needed something to fill out the list.  The problem with the guest portion of the show is that Jon and Stephen spend the entire show making fun of everyone, and then the guest comes on and all of a sudden they're Mr. Nicey Nice Guy (well, not so much Stephen).  The guests are never anyone interesting either.  It's always some sort of hippie or aspiring tire salesmen who doesn't have anything interesting to say.  The only reason why I watch these shows is to see them make fun of everyone, which for some reason doesn't happen when the guests are on.

Everyone - Every Reality Show Ever

I hate reality television and everyone on it.  Everyone.  If you were on a reality show I'd hate you.  If I were on a reality show I'd hate me.  If Ghandi were on a reality show I'd be worried because Ghandi's dead.  I'm sure there are many people who share my sentiments toward all the Speidis and the Daisys out there.  But the worst and most irritating of them all is little miss New York.  We first discovered her when she pretended to fall in love with an oversized pug* and now we watch her make $10,000 being and idiot and screwing up every job she's given while the hardworking and competent regular employees make minimum wage.  Just out of curiosity I did a Google Image search for "New York" to see how early this lovely creature showed up.  Dissapointingly, the answer is the second row of page three.  Doesn't that seem kind of ridiculous?  You'd think there'd be enough pictures of the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty to fill a whole three pages, but I guess not.

*Little-known fact: Flavor Flav actually left "Flavor of Love" after three episodes.  An oversized pug named Crinkles was brought on to complete the season as well as two others.

What TV characters irritate you the most?

I actually love New York and would love to see her succeed.

  • Naga_Petang@xanga

New York is my homegurl. Reprussent.

And Jenna isnt so bad! I like her simply for the fact that she says the most socially inept things! :D

  • mediocricy@xanga
  • noselfdestruct@xanga

And Screech from Saved by the Bell. "Comic relief" for a sitcom? Just gives me indigestion. :P

Oh, and Fran. That voice! Need I say more?

  • atmaster@xanga

good job saying "no spoilers" when your own post was full of spoilers. i really should tell you if she dies or not.

  • AnnaMayBeGrimmjow@xanga

@n1colee@xanga - grace is, and i thought this impossible, even MORE unbearable. I like how the only negative consequence to her losing her virginity is her dad dying in a plane crash... i mean wtf???
"it's okay kids, have sex all you want! it's freeing, wonderful and doesn't hurt, oh, and won't lead to anything but confidence and a better you.... but uh, your dad might die in a completely unrelated accident. And it'll be ALL. YOUR. FAULT. Your "incredible sex" might kill someone. Just think of that."

I think it's really annoying how the characters say "sex" alllll the time. like that's the only thing that they talk about or the only thing that matters to them at all. it's like they're really forcing it too.

boner, from the growing pains, rofl

  • uhm_roar@xanga

actually i lied hes my favorite

  • Inthesewords@xanga

    amen reality shows suck!

  • Babylons_Crowing@xanga

Celia from Weeds.  Not irritating per say, great character, but the character herself makes my eyes bleed with hatred.

  • gwaceee@xanga

omg vh1 reality stars are beyond annoying. actually, the shows themselves are super annoying.

  • Mon0maniac@xanga

I didn't like Ana Lucia at first, but she slowly won me over. Especially when she put Sawyer in his place. I love bitchy, bad ass women, what can I say?

    My most hated TV characters:

    1. Mr. Big - Sex and the City.
    2. Carrie - Sex and the City
    3. Sam Winchester - Supernatural
    4. Rachel Green - Friends

All of 'em are annoying motherfuckers.

P.S. There seems to be a disturbing trend of hated female characters here. Interesting.

  • PatKearnan

@Mon0maniac@xanga - haha yeah I noticed that as I was writing
there are definitely male characters out there that I don't like but the girls are just more irritating

maybe I just find girls annoying...

  • DevilDog09@xanga

You're wrong about "The Daily Show", they never have anyone interesting on? Im curious to know who you find interesting.  Jon has had everyone from Larry David (great interview), to  Mike Huckabee, to WILL FERRELL!! And the interview he did with Larry King was classic. He's also had Tom Hanks, Elisabeth Edwards (what a sad story), Katie Couric and the always popular Newt Gingrich, which was also another good intereview. Michael J. Fox! Dennis Leary, Bruce Springsteen, no one interesting?? I mean cmon. l I just dont think that you watch it often enough to be considered a credible critic.

I do agree with you about Anna Lucia on Lost, played by Michelle Rodriguez. Shes very annoying. She does the same thing in every movie she does, we get it your mad, wow what great acting skills you have lol. God she sucks big fat moose cock and donkey balls too. Another one that you dont have listed is Patricia Arquette from Medium, god i dunno if its just her thats bad or if its the whole show. But yea either way, i wish they'd get rid of her. And even tho she's as dumb as a box of rocks i still cant resist watchin her, Kendra. Shes like a traffic accident on the highway, you know you should keep your eyes on the road ahead of you but you just cant help but to look at the terrible and prolly horrid accident across the street.

  • DevilDog09@xanga

Oh and theres just one more that i have to include on here. An i dont watch this show regulary, i've just caught a couple episodes, unfortunately they were episodes with the incredibly annoying Mario Cantone on Sex and the City....HOLY SHIT I CANNOT STAND THIS MAN! Its like, oh you can play a gay man wow what range you have. We get it Mario YOU'RE GAY. He's not funny, he's not entertaining in the least and i just wish that he'd trip an fall on a hyperdermic needle and die.

  • impossibleangles@xanga

I agree with every choice you have up there.  *gulp* Does that make me an honorary man?

  • OldFashioned@xanga

didnt they kill off ana lucia's character for this very reason?

  • Diedra@xanga

You already covered reality but I'll just say anything Paris Hilton is trailer trash entertainment LOL

  • Jack_Hawksmoor@xanga

Dude! Ana Lucia crashed landed on an island with fellow survivors
getting kidnapped by "the others". How do you expect her to act, man?
Everybody can't hold it down like Kate.

    Anyhoo...

As far as I'm concerned (and my opinion matters the most around here), reality shows don't count as television. You're not going to get an award for Flavor of Love, I love New York, or The Bad Girls Club. Television is a toilet that we need to entertain us and Reality TV is the giant piece of shit that's clogging it. I just hope to God that it's just a phase. Maybe in another 10 years Reality TV will be a thing of the past. Then again, I do like Miami Ink and LA Ink, but that's more along the lines of "educational" with a hint of drama.

To answer your question, I always thought Agent Dana Scully from X-Files was irritating because she was the constant skeptic. An alien could be right in front of her, giving her a lap dance and she'll still be like, "No, Mulder. I can't see it".

I still love Gillian Anderson, regardless.

  • Kaythan@xanga

Sometimes the guests who go on the Daily Show or Colbert Report are entertaining. Other times, they're just so lame that I have to really have to give big props to Jon and Stephen for working with them so well.

  • pinkkiex53@xanga

@a_single_raindrop@xanga - of course. it's not even funny.

wait. is that little known fact true?

  • confessions_of_V@xanga

    Jenna is really annoying.

Kelly from the office is htysterical.. most likley bc I knew girls a lot like her in high school and I just laughed them all away.OH, and a little known fact- the girl who actually plays kelly talks in a normal voice with no accent, she graduated from Harvard- and helps to co writes the show! (NPR interviewed her a few months ago)

I also knew girls EXACTLY like New York in high school.. and I must admit.. I cant help but love to stare at people like her.. just the walking train wrecks that totally bewilder you. Daisy from Rock of Love who has her own TV show is on my top list.

Pretty sure I could beat the plastic right out of her fake boobies and lips- yeah she annoys me that bad!

it looks like every character has the same traits, so you basically hate the same person, over and over again [though I haven't seen Lost, so IDK ana lucia is].
