If Google doesn't like how we title a post, it will put up crappy ads. It gets a little tiresome.
The other day, we asked "How did you learn about sex?" Google said no bueno, and put up non-profit ads on that page. So we tried again with, "How did you learn about sexytime?" Google put the kibosh on that too.
At that point, we just gave up. We're not going to name a post "How did you learn about schwing shwangs and bajingos?"
While that would be an awesome Scrubs reference, 99% of people would have no idea what we're talking about. Besides, Google would probably ban bajingos too.
Here are some other posts that Google refuses to serve ads on:
I'm tired of censorship period. Even those "bleeps" on TV are annoying as hell.
You would imagine that with everything that Google has to draw ads from that they could think of something to go along with a post about sex...
Is that the reason there was a phonetic spelling for "Cock-block" in the title? haha
i block ads so it doesnt mater to me
google is silly.
xo
Google just has its panties in a twist because Bing is better. XD
why do the ads matter?
Haha, I'm watching Scrubs right now and that reference made me happy.
@yourblondeness@xanga - Money. Nonprofit ads=no revenue. Ads advertising booze, sports jerseys, and male enhancement pills=sweet sweet moolah.
SCRUBS!!!!! <3333
A zillion kudos on the Scrubs reference<3
I think you should use Scrubs lingo.
It isn't censorship on Google's part. When an advertiser buys ads from Google they get to select what kind of content they want their ads placed with. Xanga needs to stop moaning and find out which advertisers get the most click-throughs and suggest their business' ask Google to send their ads to Xanga. You can ask for specific websites as well as blocking specific subjects on Google-Ads. (God, I'm such a geek)
@NeukenKeuken@xanga - I believe you're referring to Google's keyword buying program, AdWords. As I understand it, their content program (AdSense) definitely doesn't allow anything but PG ads, and refuses to work with any site that has "adult" content (even just using the word "sex" too many times): https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=48182
Just to clarify - we're mostly just making it clear to our readers that we have to tweak the post titles sometime in order to have ads appear from Google. We get questions about why we use words like "pr0n", so thought this might be a humorous way to explain why.
You're totally right - it's not technically censorship. But it's still annoying!
