Guys over the age of 17, it's time to rejoice: Panic at the Disco (formerly with an unbelievably annoying exclamation point) has decided to split up. The lead singer and bass player are leaving and heading in what they're calling "a new direction" (read: poverty) while the other half of the band is still going to tour under the Panic name.
Honestly, when I first read this, I got really excited about it. There was so much that was irritating about this band, it was kind of hard to list it all. To start, the first album had song titles that were about a paragraph long apiece, and the lead singer's voice sounded vaguely like a bleating goat being fed to a lawnmower. On the second one, he calmed down a little bit, but the whole thing kind of sounded like a bad Beatles ripoff. And now, the group is splitting, with one half keeping the name in a bad cash-in attempt.
At its worst (or, so I thought), the band sounded like this. Agonizing:
But then I realized something: the breakup is actually worse. Much, much worse. With the band splitting in two, unless something dramatically changes, there's going to be two bad bands where there was once only one. Now, the lead singer is going to warble and whine his way through our speakers in another form, while the other guys keep trying (and failing) to make Beatles songs. You know who made great Beatles songs? The Beatles! And since they're getting their own Rock Band game, we could just play that! Or, even better, we could just listen to Beatles songs!
If you need me, I'll be listening to Revolver and softly weeping.
So this is my plea: Panic at the Disco, pleaseget back together. Put aside your differences. Two wrongs don't make a right, guys.
I don't know if it's just me, but I couldn't understand [the meaning] of half their lyrics.
Wow. Didn't know until I read this post. Not gonna lie, I'm kinda sad. :[
I couldn't care less.
Haha, I don't care one way or another. I hardly listen to current music; my preferences are generally for pre-80s rock and metal.
I had a friend who tried to get me into Panic at the Disco. She burned a copy of the CD for me, but I never listened to it. She was into all of those types of bands though. I'm not sure she actually ever liked music or if she just liked the trend.
haha this post made me go listen to their music.
Was the Beatles Rock Band comment serious? The Beatles were epic, and still are as long as people don't let good taste die. Michael Jackson vs Beatles? Beatles pwn every time.
i'm sad.
but before you start complaining, figure out which band members are staying in the band and which ones aren't. you totally screwed up who;s going and staying. don't whine if you don't know what you're talking about.
I can't believe you just suggested that they (remotely) equate (in some far off universe) to the Beatles.
You should be ashamed.
And I think that there might be hope now that the only two decent musicians in the whole crowd are going off and pulling a stroke of originality. It's pretty clear that Pretty.Odd was a totally different album. Maybe better? The jury's still out.
@loveyoudotcom@xanga - Seriously. Losing the bassist and lead guitar is way more damaging. I mean, if they still had Ryan Ross writing their music, this faux P!ATD might still be worth mocking. Now it's just a pity fest.
a!mused.
i loved panic. i thought they were great together.
of course, i'm not a guy over 17 -- pretty far from it -- so i guess i wouldn't agree with you anyways.
I actually like I write sins not tragedies. I used to think it was pretty catchy. Though the video is bizarre. I never listened to any of their other songs, so I really don't care about them breaking up.
Um actually, Brendon Urie is the lead singer, and he's not leaving. Ryan Ross is leaving. He was the lead guitarist. Get your facts straight.
hahaha I really liked them they remind me of fall out boy, which I love too. but I also like britney spears I won't lie
it doesn't matter to me.
i didn't listen to them much in the first place.
their last album was suckass anyway. so yeah.
SWEET JUSTICE!
Hopefully they will both just die off the face of the planet ;D
I vote to let the band die alongside Fall Out Boy. I really can't stand either or their song name rip offs of famous quotes from various books and novels.
wow how sad i loved them! The second CD SUCKED but i loved the first!
panic at the disco's first album was good. then they got all happy and weird and annoying. *lament* oh well now i'm over it *goes back to jrock* ah jrock.
@Sweet_Heroine@xanga - I actually just saw a pre-sale sign for the Beatles Rock Band yesterday.
As far as Panic!, their songs wern't too bad on the radio where all the audio and actual singing was fixed up nicely. Live, they are horribly painful, and I would never buy their cds.
...I didn't realize they made more than one whiny album. I don't care that they split up. But for your predicament, if they are split up chances are they will not be good enough to get decent air time on the radio so you shall hear less of them. Win?
I was wondering where they went. LOL.
I actually didn't mind his voice, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. Get back together!
i really liked panic at the disco, & i was sad when i heard they broke up :[

I don't really know what to think.
