Would you ever consider naming your kids after emo vampires like Edward and Bella?

    Uh, I highly doubt it.
I have seriously considered naming my son (if I have one) Desmond after the character on Lost.

Twilight must be stopped! I don't get how these Twi-tards are into a book with no character development and a atrocious storyline. If I EVER had a kid, I'd rather name him "Phantom of the Opera" than a faggy vampire with a vagina that spews out glitter!

GUH! What is WRONG with people!?

    oh hell no.

edward is kind of a quirky, old-timey name, so maybe, but not after that vampire shit.

bella sounds like it's trying too hard, but that's just me.
  • beetunes@xanga

@KrazeeKunoichi009@xanga - a vagina that spews out glitter. huh.

  • storiesandsinker@xanga

I personally think that Bella is a lovely name, but I don't think I'd name my kid that... especially not after the whole Twilight thing.

  • nprospect

    @ReadMePlease146@xanga - PENNEH!

anyway - this clearly has nothing to do with twilight since there's an apparent trend of Bella moving up in the rankings going back a few years.

In fact the largest shifts seem to have occurred previously to the twilight explosion into our pop cultural awareness.

  • Iylish@xanga

I personally like the names but I wouldn't want my children and myself to be judged simply because their names coincided with the main characters of a book that was both famous and infamous during my late teen years. Also, if someone told me that I was stupid for naming MY children because of THEIR negative opinions, then I would have to kill them, which would ruin my life.

I'll just stick with Lestat and Armand, because those vampires seem "legit" in everyone's eyes... regardless of their own deviations from traditional vampires, which is just as bad as any fabrication Meyers came up with.

  • JessxMaxine@xanga

I liked the name Edward before Twilight. But no, I wouldn't name my son after a the Twilight character. Haha.

Bella isn't my type of name.
    xo
  • aznditz@xanga

naming your children after twilight characters?  why not harry potter characters next?

i wonder how many people in the world are named hermione.  or sirius.  lmao.

  • sweetsweetsugarjunkie@xanga

What do you know? She actually looks decent in that picture.

The popularity of names are always changing. For example, I think the number of kids named "Britney" dropped sharply during Britney Spears' "crazy" period. And I think 2008 was the first year (or the first year in a long while) that the names ranked #1 for both girls and boys was not biblical.

Before Twilight came along, I did consider naming my kid Edward. Wouldn't do it now.

And isn't Bella's full name Isabella? You should check the ranking for that name too. That would be interesting.

  • jupiter312@xanga

I wouldn't name my kid after a Twilight character, but I got the name "Giovanni" from a different book.

  • I_ChooseThin@xanga

My son's middle name is Cullen. Both of his names are from books. My husband and I are proud Twilight nerds, and have been before it was popularized by the media and thirteen-year-olds who are trying to make the world spontaneously explode before it's time.

@KrazeeKunoichi009@xanga - Ahh. Another jerk who wants to put something down with no knowledge whatsoever of the topic. I was unaware that Edward had a glitter-spewing vagina.

This whole Twilight thing on mancouch is seriously getting old. I think we should all just move on..this is MANCOUCH..not..We Hate Twilight.

  • n1colee@xanga

I think Isabella/Bella is a very pretty name... but I absolutely would not name my child that because of the whole mass Twilight obsession that's been raging on for the past year and a half to two years.

  • sozpa@xanga

Edward yes... I've loved that name even before Twilight.
    Bella... no.

  • SugarCandy1229@xanga

i think that this twiight thing is so stupid, they have frickin t-shirts and hoodies and bags.man wheres the world going these days *sigh* i also hate the harry potter vs. twilight thing that makes me REALLY mad

  • Never_go_quietly@xanga

I hate that Stephanie Meyer ruined a perfectly good name like Isabella with her deluded teen-romance crap. Someone should spear her.

  • Never_go_quietly@xanga

@I_ChooseThin@xanga - I'm sorry to say that he's right: After the first book, Twilight's plot is like a roller coaster with gaps in the tracks- it's random, seemingly pointless, and frankly, resembles The Young and the Restless. It's like Meyer kept running out of ideas, so she decided to throw in a lot of pointless drama to keep the series going. And the characters have about as much depth as a puddle, and are just as easy to see through.

  • insert_label_here_003@xanga

mancouch do you realize every time you bitch about twilight your penises just get smaller = (

  • I_ChooseThin@xanga

@insert_label_here_003@xanga - Thank you. =] Obviously they find something credible in it, otherwise they wouldn't take time out of their day to blog about it.

  • Sunshine08x21@xanga
  • noselfdestruct@xanga

I've considered naming my children after Twilight characters, Harry Potter characters, and other characters in books I read who I really liked.

However, I can understand the drop in Edward-naming while simultaneously the use of the name Bella is growing; Edward is the perfect guy. Not only would I not want my child to have to live up to such high expectations , but in my own head, Edward is a guy who I am in love with, so I wouldn't want that to be associated with my kid. Another thing is that I like the name Edward, but I don't like any of its nicknames. Also, my dad's middle name is Edward, so if I actually named by child Edward, I'd either have to let him feel like I named my child after him (we're not that kind of family), or I'd have to give him a long-winded explanation of my naming choice. lol.

  • SimplyNita@xanga

I think Bella is a cute name but I wouldn't name my child that because of twilight

  • linuin@xanga

I loved the names Isobel and Alice before the whole Twilight craze, but I really don't know if I could do it anymore.  I'd feel the same kind of bad as if I tailored my kid's name to my married name (James if my last name was Bond, for example).  Which is a pity, but at least there are plenty of names out there.
