The New York Times caused a sensation when they published this picture of Specialist Zachary Boyd fighting in pink boxers and a red tee (he didn't have enough time to get dressed after his post was attacked while he was sleeping):
Source: Associated PressI was incredibly touched by Specialist Boyd's bravery... not so much that he was fighting in pink boxers and a red tee, but that the war for him is so incredibly immersive and all encompassing. So it was shocking to see
comments like these blaming Specialist Boyd:
The first thing I thought when I saw the T-shirt and shorts was, he’s gonna get himself and his unit mates killed with those beacon-bright clothes! Cute, for sure, but seems kinda dangerous to be in a bright red shirt and pink boxers on a craggy gray Afghan hillside when the Taliban is looking!— Macronical
I guess it shows the reality of ill-preparedness and vulnerability of our soldiers.

What?!!? How could you focus on his red shirt and pink boxers creating danger and demonstrating ill-preparedness?! To be honest, this picture really touched me. Here was a guy who was sleeping when his base came under attack. He grabbed his helmet, body armor and guy and went to war. That is true dedication to his country and buddies! He didn't have time to think about the color of his tees and boxers. Happy Independence Day... and many thanks to people like Specialist Zachary Boyd for fighting for their country!! Personally, I thought the pink "I Love NY" boxers were a nice touch.
Besides, who expects their underwear to show up on the front page of the New York Times! If you were woken up in the middle of the night and had your picture taken... would your underwear be front-page ready?

Hahah... of course
I want a pair just like those.
I'd be in the nude, underwear is so 19 90s.
And fuck those people who have a problem with him. Those are the same people posting negative comments from their couches. Lets bring him Boyd home and send anyone who's got a problem with it
"kinda dangerous to be in a bright red shirt and pink boxers" really? Dangerous in afghanistan? No shit.
Haha. My underwear would totally be front page ready.
Regardless, I agree with you. People should stop caring so much about what he was wearing and pay attention to the fact that he wasn't worried about getting dressed, he was ready to fight to protect his base and his country. To me, that's all that really matters because that's more than what many of us would do.
That's such a funny and cute photo.
Those boxers are going to be famous.
JAILBAIT MUCH!?
Good for him for fighting for his country with all he has in him.
I mean honestly, how many men would be willing to do something like that?
As the saying goes, "If you can't be behind our troops, feel free to stand in front"
i totally agree!
At least he was clothed, not naked
i think he's super sexy wearing those boxers and flip flops and going to war.
Someone said it above, but it has to be reiterated:
To the critics: Great that you can notice these things while sitting on your arse back home, safe in the knowledge that the fellow you're criticising is the one fighting to uphold your liberties.
Frig, can't blame the guy for not dressing for the possibility that he'd have to fight without changing.
umm i err dont kinda wear underwear... like to free swing like... soo would be pic of hairy ass i think...
@Lordv16@xanga - haha, agreed!
LOL thats cute
wow, that's cool.
I was just saving a bunch of "Current Event" pictures before I stumbled upon this; I'll be saving this pic, too. Sarcasm or any kind of mockery is the last thing on my mind when I'm looking at this picture. This is so real.
My admiration goes out to him, too.
Lol good stuff. I probably wouldnt have underwear if I were sleeping lol.
Who gives a flying fuck what he's wearing? He's just another awesome soldier fighting in our country's name. Anyone who criticizes can STFU and die on their couch. God knows I wouldn't be able to get out there in my pajamas and fight a war. First off, I'd be nude! Scary thought..
@Duke6932@xanga - Precisely.
This is the bravest man I've ever seen. He deserve nothing but the utmost respect and love and support. I went there and I read some of those comments, and on the other sites as well, and those 2 on that one weren't the worst.
Too many people misunderstand our military. The commenter on that picture is one of them. I thought it was a great shot that showed true dedication, that the soldier didn't care that he had to get up in the middle of the night and fight in his underwear to keep his base safe.
Sometimes you just don't have enough time to be fully prepared for things.
