  • On Strip Clubs

One night last summer, a group of friends and I were all at somebody's house. The girls in the group were talking about some intensive "girls day" that they had planned out. Not to be outdone, the guys started racking their brains, and we hastily came up with our comeback. The result, to be executed a week later, became known as "Misogynist Monday."

Our plan involved getting up early and driving a couple of hours west to some famous buffet, then heading back and going to a shooting range. From there, Misogynist Monday took a hard detour into Napville, and then we would all reconvene in Philly for cheesesteaks, closing out the day at a strip club. Everything up until the strip club portion of the day is pretty self-explanatory, but I want to talk a little bit about the closing act.

At the time, all of us were 18 or 19 years old, and the only knowledge we had of strip clubs was what we had seen in movies or music videos, but judging from what we had seen and heard from people we knew, this was going to be an incredible experience. Everything we had done through our high school lives and our first year of college had led up to this moment.

I don't think we will ever be more wrong about anything in our lives.

We arrived at the only 18+ strip club in the city, "Show & Tel" (yes, that is actually the name, and no, it is not clever) and were immediately slapped with a hefty cover charge. Of course, the bouncer gave us our change back all in ones. This should have been a pretty bad omen; now, regardless of how good or bad it was, we were bound there for at least an hour (Why? Well, we're cheap. We were getting our money's worth).

We walked in, and were easily the youngest people in the room not stripping by about 40 years. To make things worse, we immediately got targeted by a stripper named "Gypsy" that the vast majority of us would have rather paid to put clothes back on. The rest of the dancers weren't all that much of an improvement.

By the end of our short hour at the strip club, I think all of us felt like this poor kid on the left:

Here's the thing: I don't know if the majority of people who read this have ever been to a strip club, and I can only guess that I'm not going to be able to actively talk anyone who wants to go out of going. So, try it once. Who knows? Maybe your local gentleman's club is a few steps up from "Show & Tel." Just be ready to be disappointed.

I have two questions: have you guys ever been to a strip club? Also, "Misogynist Monday II: Electric Boogaloo" is coming up for me and my friends; can you think of any places we can go to follow it up?

did you guys have to call it "mysognist monday?" holy crap, that's not the male equivalent of girls' day. unless they called theirs "misandry day" or something ridiculous to that effect. even then, i'd just call them sexist idiots and not create "mysognist monday" as an ill-conceived comeback.

@MissPixieGlitter@xanga - Hahaha honestly, our title was more for the sake of alliteration. We really liked the alliteration, nothing more.

  • fLiPgUy31O@xanga

Haha I've never been to a strip club. Everyone I know says it's cool if you're not picky with girls. Maybe I'd go and have a good time if I was drunk to the max.

  • MissPixieGlitter@xanga

@jgall0610 - ok ok... sorry for jumping at you; that word just triggered O_O.

  • SladeTheGreyFox@xanga

I know that club.  Should've ponied up and gone to Delilah's.

  • miss_prettyinpink@xanga

Hahaha. I think strip clubs are overrated.

  • sozpa@xanga

I would NEVER go to a strip club.

  • Jack_Hawksmoor@xanga

I believe Delilah's a bit more expensive, but better quality. They know me by name in there.

I had planned on going to one for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't work out.

Similar experience, I went with some friends since we were bored.

Horrible, horrible place we went to. Not only were the girls odd/old/unattractive, but one of the strippers onstage cartwheeled over to me, pulled my glasses off and pranced around with them. So not only could I NOT see, but my friends were commentating through screams about what she was doing "OSHIT DUDE, SHE JUST PUT YOUR GLASSES IN HER CROTCH. FUCKING SICK"

Glasses returned, I ran to the closet they called a bathroom. I stood at the sink and heard a voice behind me "These fucking girls. I'd be more interested in some gay sex". I blinked..a few times, not turning around, acting like I didn't hear anything. When I turned, the man behind the voice was standing behind me, starring in my face before producing a slight shrug and eyebrow raise as if to say "So..how bout it?"

I left. Quickly. And I swear to god he sniffed my hair as I passed him. I walked to my friends and ever so eloquently said 'I'm getting the FUCK out of here"

    Horrible....

But not as bad as my brother's experience (At show and tell I believe, Philly). They walked in on a girls first time, she was streaming tears in a dress that my brother describes as clearly her old prom dress. Old men were cheering at her to take it off, as she cried but kept walking out on stage, slowly taking off her straps.  I'm not sure if she really did kill herself later in the week like my brother said or if he was just adding to an already horrid story, but he said he watched her soul die that night.

...And yes I heard Delilah's is the place to go.

My friend and I had already gotten drunk from drinking at a few campus bars that night when one of my stripper friends sent me a text, asking if we would go keep her company(slow night).

I had never been to a strip club before, and since I had turned 21 just a week or so beforehand, I jumped at the chance(no cover charge).

We show up and it's dead. Seriously. Dead. We are literally the only people there who are not stripping, bouncing, or serving drinks. On the stage to the left is a girl dancing, who, like your experience, we could have done without seeing. In all honesty, there was only one "hot" girl there(maybe a 7.5), and a few girls who, due to being incredibly drunk, I would have been okay(and just okay) with seeing naked. The rest were too... BleH... Even when I was wasted.

My non-stripper friend and I go straight to the bar and order the strongest drinks they had. He buys a lap dance, I simply talk to the strippers and bartender. There were times that night that I was more turned off than I have ever been before around females when drunk, but for the most part it was a very... normal bar experience. Not much different than anywhere else(aside from the girls constantly trying to persuade us, the only two customers, to buy dances).

I would do it again... But not on a Monday. And maybe a place with more reasonable drinks.

I've been to a few different strip clubs around here and they have all been pretty good. Of course then one's I've been to are more up scale, not the ones that you find off the side of the interstate, lol!

My ex had wanted to go to one when he turned 18, I was 15 at the time. I didn't want him to go without me, so I told him I'd go with him when I turned 18. The night we went, I spend an extra half hour getting ready. I wanted to look my best. I stood in the mirror saying "you're pretty, you're pretty"... I was preparing for a long night of self hatred. Within 5 minutes of walking the door, I felt more confident than I had in a long time. All of the strippers were either middle aged, chunky, or had boobs that hung to their waist. Not to mention how trashy they all looked. I told my ex that he could go back any time, he just looked at me and laughed.

  • Nesabuterfli@xanga

LOL...Oh how funny and horrible for you guys=( I've been to quite a few strip clubs in my life but not as recreation really...My best friend was/is an "exotic dancer" as most strippers like to be called. I used to go to meet up with her before we went out...I also used to get duped into going when all the girls decided it would be so much fun to go get lap dances?? lol I don't know...From what I experienced about these clubs, you get what you pay for. If you're going to venture a trip there make sure you pick a nicer, upscale establishment...Not some hole in the wall club that you find on an airport boulevard!

  • x_just_go_away_x@xanga

Man, you've all had shitty experiences.

I've been to a few strip clubs in my area and I can honestly only say one time was bad and that was just because I wasn't in the mood to be there because my ex boyfriends baby momma was working and we don't get along.

The other place I went to was a blast. I actually go up there every thursday night that I'm home because to start the night off they have a fight night with local MMA fighters and occasionally we'll get UFC fighters to stop in. Then we'll all go into the other room, where the stripper's strip, after the fights. the strippers are pretty decent, the only ones I was honestly disgusted by were the ones I went to HS with. Otherwise I was really impressed with the place. Decently priced too. Usually it reaches the limit of people in the room too.

  • immaairheadxl@xanga

    i get free lapdances...
    i give them for free,too..

GIRLS ONLY lol nah i kidd
but i have friends whom are strippers ..

  • coolmonkey@xanga

Strip Clubs are for middle-aged men that are trying to escape from their bitchy, fat wives or middle-aged losers that can't get girls.  Do not go especially if you look young.  They will just find ways to rip you off.

  • thehighbreed@xanga

the problem is that the strip club sucked and you went on a weekday (all the attractive girls work on the Fridays and Saturdays).
If you ever get the chance to come to Las Vegas, and check out the strip clubs & topless bars. You'll be amazed!

  • y_tc@xanga

no, haven't been to a strip club, I'm not that interested.

  • AznFier@xanga

Wow crappy first experience, I went to one over Spring Break, it was fun indeed. And yeah blew a bit of money but it was all for fun.

  • emptyspiral@xanga

welp, imma too skeerd to roll up in the tittaw bar

  • DancerDarlin@xanga

I went to a strip club with a guy friend of mine to celebrate our 19th birthdays . . . it was fun, but I've decided that I'm not going back until I can (legally) drink in public!  I think you just went to a bad club on a bad night.

  • mewithoutu77@xanga

i've been to a strip club with my ex once and trust me, i could do what that girl on the pole is doing and i'm giving him sex.  from that day, he stopped going to strip club.

  • jasonwrites@xanga

Sounds like a bunch of subpar experiences. I've only visited a strip club once and certainly enjoyed it. But like several others said, the simple rule is-- you get what you paid for.

  • mindyeat@xanga

all the 18+ ones are gross. Im waiting till im 21 to get into a good strip club. One time sake
