I've always preferred brunettes and my brother has always preferred blondes. I have no idea why, but this has always been the way since the beginning of time. I think it's our way of dividing up the world (apparently, neither of us are interested in redheads). I have never dated a blonde, and doubt I ever will.
I did some research and apparently I'm in the minority in preferring brunettes (it must be true, because the survey was done by the
Garnier hair product company):

Blondes 26%
Redheads/gingers 22%
Light brown hairs 20%
Brunettes 10%
Other 22%
I wanted to redeem brunettes so I did some more research... and if it doesn't have to do with sex, then brunettes often
rate higher than blondes:
- 71 per cent of men saying they prefer women with darker hair for long-term relationships
- 76 per cent of people think brunettes are the most intelligent women
- A quarter of men rated them as the most confident lovers
- 81 per cent of those surveyed naming brunettes as the most genuine
- 66 per cent [said brunettes were] the least moody
But as mentioned above, blondes are widely considered to be the best lovers... and 37% of men would prefer to have an affair with a blonde. Redheads are second, which means brunettes are in third.
I beg to differ! But then again, my girlfriend is brunette so I am probably biased.

I like brunettes, something about dark hair and dark eyes that is really sexy. Though lately, I've had a case of "ginger-vitis.
Redheads have caught my eye more often than not lately, no idea why.
Not that I won't date a blonde, I personally don't put that much importance into one's hair color. (If a girl's attractive, then she's attractive.)
Color doesn't matter, more like length & style for me.

Well on guys I like all hair colors, it really depends on how hot the guy is really I don’t think I have a hair color preference but I guess if I did it would be brunette, then blonde, then red.
I tend to like brunettes but I've dated black haired girls and a redhead before. So it's really a toss up.

The whole hair and intelligence bullshit will never stop irritating me. I graduated 7th in my class and got a full ride to my university..
Redheads and darkheads (people say they're brunettes, but there's a lot of range in that color category apparently) are the best.
I'm not a big fan of blondes, but of course, a hot chick is a hot chick. Its not a make-or-break factor in whom I pick to be with.
I prefer brunettes, and redheads come in a close second. (That's for women, anyway. I honestly don't care for male redheads much.)
Blonde hair is almost always an instant turn off for me unless I already know the person and happen to be attracted to him/her. Then the hair color doesn't really matter.

And there's no such thing as truly 'black' hair...it's just an extremely dark shade of brown. Does that make 'black'-haired people brunettes as well?

I actually dont have a preference. Body/face/personality matter much more to me than hair color.
