I tried to bring myself to buy an Apple laptop recently... but couldn't bring myself to do it.
So I bought a Dell laptop, but dammit... you can't really use Vista on a laptop. I put it on my last Sony Vaio laptop and it ate up tons of memory and was super slow when I brought it home. Seriously, what was Microsoft thinking when they released this piece of crap OS? I think xkcd has it right:
I ended up having XP installed on my new Dell laptop... but when I turned it on, it didn't connect to my home wifi. That's two Microsoft laptops in a row that haven't worked out of the box. Sure I can Google and fix it, but it's annoying.
XP sucks. Vista sucks. Microsoft fail.
Have you had to deal with Vista? How's it working out for you?

Nope. I use a Mac. I don't have to deal with Vista or Pee-Seas in general.
I don't really mind it too much, it just gets confusing sometimes but that's because it's new
I have Vista on my laptop that I just bought in March. Although, I have an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and like 4GB SDRAM on mine, which means crap tons of memory and a very fast computer. Maybe Vista was only made for that, which sucks because a lot of laptops aren't made that way.
The laptop I had before had XP and half the memory of the one I have now. I like both, but Vista seems to work better for my life style.
Good luck with your laptop, sorry that didn't work out.
PS: I was going to get a MAC as well. Just couldn't afford it.
Macs are Personal Computers as well, just fyi. And Vista is a resource heavy OS no doubt about that but overall it is good and secure. Windows 7 is pretty much Vista but toned down so that it's not a resource hog. I do highly suggest giving 7 a try.
No OS is perfect but I just prefer windows over macs.
You downgraded to xp but didn't bother getting the drivers before you did. Yeaaah... that's why it won't connect.
better than macs.
Stop blaming the OS, and learn to Google and RTFM. Vista works fine with newer computers. Obviously, it won't run well on old computers. You wouldn't run Windows XP on a system from 1987. Same thing here. Upgrade your computer, then Vista will work fine.
As for laptops, companies can't really advertise XP in them, since it's old, and the masses want the newest and best. So they're not going to put old software in it. That leaves you the choice of either actually buying a GOOD laptop for $800+, or buying a piece of crap and complaining that it is, well, a piece of crap.
All aside, I can't wait for Windows 7.
OMD! yes and was just about to blog about it but ya beat me to it lol! Vista is a suckfest, even after the tutorial Yes it has nice features , but they tend to get in my way and on my nerves........WHY do I need a sidebar?? And good luck finding things that except vista or will work well with vista. It totally devoured my router! It is almost like a robotic mother...you have to have permission for everything! Although I have never had a Mac, I have heard some of the arguments over Mac vs PC but I am not that mad yet to actually try out a Mac. I just need a different version of windows....the only type of Vista I want are the mountains!
Wait, you just bought a laptop that cant run vista? Seriously, how little ram do you have? Dont most laptops now come stock with 2g min to prevent that issue?
I got vista 64bit. After I turned off UAC and made a shitload of tweaks, it runs great!God damn it!
I am too poor for MACS!
I'm currently running XP Pro on one desktop and Vista Ultimate on another. The XP machine is a dual-core 2GB machine, the Vista is quad-core 4GB. I've only had troubles with the little weird parts about needing confirmation for everything I do, but I can understand how it's supposed to be more secure. Either way, I don't mind either (though I'd prefer XP for a less powerful machine). I'll be screwin' around with the windows 7 RC a bit on the XP machine a bit as well, just for kicks, and considering bumping to Vista Ultimate x64 for the high-end monster. It will eat other computers... I'm sure it already has. (Vista PC has a 4.7 rating because of graphics. Otherwise it'd be either high 5's or low 6's. :Þ)
Oh, and two words: Millenium Edition.
HP Pavilion dv3...320 GBs...6GBs RAM...AMD Turion Dual-Core 2.5 GHz...Vista Home Premium...$925...
Nope, I'm doing pretty good all around. Don't care for Macs at all. Liked XP more, but Vista is just fine, I can never see how people have so many problems.

my dickheaded Vista comp shuts on and off by itself like no one was using it.
It does it every 3 to 5 months
Fuck Vista until its insides shatter.
XP is amazing, i dont know what you're smoking...
I agree with you about Vista though. I think even Microsoft agreed..or implied agreement at one point.
Yeah....Vista works just fine on my laptop. I've never had a problem with it.
I love the picture though.
At work we are still using Widows 98. FAIL.
agreed. vista is a piece of shit and I have had nothing but problems with it. and I just love how it decides to shut down and do updates whenever it wants.....like when im in the middle of writing a 6 page paper.
I hate Vista. All it does is cause problems. Love me some XP.
vista sucks.
mac is super awesome
it just has a really sucky msn =/
hmmm maybe you should have bought a computer that was compatible with PC. i bought a laptop that had a choice of vista or PC and obviously i choose the one i was comfortable with and knew how to use.
which one is worse? probably vista and mac but i've had friends who liked it cause they got used to it. it does take some getting used to but once you get the hang of it, it should be easy. PC started out that way for me.
i have vista. it works fine, for the most part. sometimes it doesn't want to work with my cd burner, but that's about the only problem i have. of course, i don't do a lot more than get on the internet, but...
<3 vista. your hardware probably just sucks lol.
I was using a mac for a few days last week....
and wow, I feel like a savage using this PC.
Next comp I get, mac all the way.
I've never had a problem with Vista. XP never really gave me trouble either, but I like Vista best. I can't wait for Windows 7.
