  • In love with a grill

If you ask me, nothing smells more like summer than a pair of sizzling T-bones on the grill. The real question isn't whether or not to grill, of course, but how to?

Meet the competitors: The Weber Genesis Silver B is a straightforward gas grill with no bells or whistles, perfect for a small family dinner; the Weber One-Touch 22.5" Charcoal Kettle Grill is the champion of charcoal barbecuing.

Each style has its benefits: cooking with gas reduces the carcinogenic potential of grilling meats, while cooking with charcoal is arguably the only acceptable grilling for a barbecue. Each style also has its downfalls: gas grills are incredibly expensive, and meat doesn't taste as gosh-darn fantastic off of them; charcoal grills can cook unevenly if the chef is inexperienced, as well as the fact that lighter fluid around the wrong person can be the recipe for a horrible, fiery death.

Personally, I prefer charcoal grilling. There's just no way to get that smoky flavor on a gas-grilled steak, no matter how rarely you clean your grill (just take my word for it--clean your grill). Also, there's something to be said about the simplicity of a charcoal grill. Light it up at a barbecue and almost anyone can use it. Plus, if you send a few people to grab marshmallows and graham crackers you can start up a s'mores roast while the grill's still hot.

What about you? What gets your charcoals a-cookin'?
