How many times do you use a public restroom in a day? At the mall, in a restaurant, or at the movies are a just a few examples of places I usually find myself having to pee. And when I approach the stalls, I automatically enter this default-mode where certain rules are to be followed:
1) Eyes straight ahead and focused on the wall in front of me; never shifting sight left or right.
2) Allowance of at least one stall between myself and another restroom occupant, preferably two if available.
3) Conversation is extremely limited, even if a friend happens to be relieving himself at the same time.
4) Never flush, not wanting to touch the stall handle and the infinite number of germs collected on it.
5) Always wash my hands, using the paper towel to handle the door and exit the restroom.
6) Never go number 2 in a public toilet, unless in dire need.
Now, are these unspoken rules followed by every guy entering a restroom, or is it just me being neurotic?? And do women have a similar set of restroom etiquette?
This question reminds me of the old movie 'Just One Of the Guys', about a high school girl who poses as a man for an article she's writing in the school paper. If you haven't seen it yet, go rent it. It's full of laughs and that old nostalgic feeling I seldom get these days.

Ha, I wasn't aware there were rules concerning how one should behave while relieving one's self in a public bathroom :P
I broke the rules sometimes. Guys do peek at each others' 'jewels' in urinals.
Damn, are you kidding me? I keep it realz like my girl Britney and often go barefoot in the "wash room" as those Canadians say. Viva Canada!
I always kick the stall handle to flush before and after I do my business. Other than that, I pretty much follow the unspoken rules listed.

Definitely follow these rules. Rule 2 may be broken in a crowded bathroom, such as a movie theater. I'm a man and I'm not waiting in line just because no one wants to use a stall between two other men.
i saw something like that on youtube haha. i doubt females have any restroom etiquette? but i get irritated when women don't throw their sanitary pad properly in the bin given, sometimes they hang outside the bin yuck. and i'm also irritated by ppl who don't clean their pee from the seat.
what's interesting is if everyone followed the rule regarding #2's, then male public bathroom stalls should be impeccable. unfortunately this either means that that rule is often bent, or that men have number 2 crises very very often. =D

I follow all but #4 cuz I'm gonna be washing my hands anyway. What's nasty is when people don't wash their hands. I sometimes have to clean the restrooms at the restaurant where I work, and so many customers don't wash their hands.
