At the top of things men are supposed to do better than women is driving a car.
The first time I drove a car was two weeks before I had to take my road test to get my license and the most embarrassing part? Being taught by one of my girl friends.
At first I didn’t understand why it was such a big deal. She seemed like a decent driver on campus and seemed to know what she was doing.
When my close friends finally got word, they started laughing and taunting me.
They told me to find another guy to teach me how to drive because I’ll never learn from a girl.
It took me 2 days before I realized how right they were. The first time my girl friend drove outside of campus to get some dinner, she almost crashed her car. I didn’t say anything to her because she was already upset and somewhat scared.
The next day I asked another friend if he was willing to just help me out with a few things before I took the road test. He gave me a few tips, and let me figure it out. When my girl was giving me tips, she would make comments if I didn’t do something right.
Since then I vowed to never take driving advice from a women. I’m not going to say all women drivers are bad, but most of the ones I’ve been in a car with, have been pretty terrible.
Would you ever take driving tips from a woman? Who taught you how to drive?

LOL.
I don't drive yet >.>, but I get tips from my older bro and my dad lolll.
I wonder why car insurance rates are higher for men than for women? ......... I'm just sayin......... My niece said to me quite seriously not long ago "Aunty Dawn, why are there never any mother f*krs trying to kill us when you drive?"... After the initial shock and a few giggles because I knew exactly where she had heard that. I explained why she should not use that word and then told her I suppose we were just lucky that way. I didn't have the heart to tell her that Popo had a tendency to meet more of them because of his agressive driving habits. Had a long talk with Popo about the language he uses in front of six year olds too.
@echois23@xanga - hahaha! that's great!
My dad was the one who actually taught me to drive; my mom just nagged me the whole time. Unfortunately, I'm the type of driver who does nothing to break the stereotype of terrible women drivers. My biggest problem is just plain carelessness. I don't pay enough attention!
okay, not all girls are bad drivers, i'm a way better driver than my bf by a long run. and i learned how to drive from my mom, and she's a great driver.
I learned from my driver's ed teacher, which was a guy. Nobody else taught me. But, often times, I only get comments from girls like, "Slow down." Other than that, I would say that some girls are really bad drivers. One of my girl friends almost rear ended a car because she was too busy trying on lip glosses in the car (I was in the car with her).
Another question is: "Would you mind being taught how to drive by a Chinese person?" :P
BTW, I am Chinese and I find it humorous when people say that we can't drive, yet they're the ones on their cell phone yapping away and not using their turn signals.
@mewithoutu77@xanga - Agreed, my boyfriend sucks at driving. in fact, all men do.
because they drive recklessly and fast, break every law they can get away with, and try to "impress" people with their "skills," which aren't skills at all.
the stereotype goes both ways.
Most girls I know swear its men who can't drive, speed, and crash more, but they all speed, can't park, and hit things. Somehow they get away with it, mostly because cops around here don't want to bother women.
@PenaltyLife@xanga - Funny. But in my family the aggressive fast drivers are women, same with my friends families. And they can't parallel park either. My Aunt once drove strait into a curb, at a 90 degree angle, trying to parallel park...I have no idea how.
i hate this dumb stereotype. which is why i'm going to prove you all wrong when i get my license. HMPH.
WOW. stereotype much?
I'm a pretty good driver, have never gotten into an accident, but I suck at parking (I can back in but it takes me too long so I just don't bother, and I only parallel park if I absolutely have no other choice). So I guess I don't really help the stereotype.
As to who taught me, it was my dad, and I first learned how to drive in his Tahoe and his extra long Chevy Trailblazer. So I'm not one of those girls that's scared to drive anything other than their little sports cars, haha.
When I was learning to drive, I HATED driving with my mom. All she did was nag me and tell me what I was doing wrong and tell me how to do everything. My dad, on the other hand, would comment once in a while, but nothing to serious. And he wouldn't constantly nag me..
I'm a better driver than my boyfriend (even he admits this) and almost all of my male friends (one or two of them are probably as good as I am).
My dad taught me how to drive. My entire immediate family consists of great drivers, and we all know how to drive stick very well, too. It's a handy skill to have.
overgeneralize.
I've been driving for almost 3 years now, and I'd say i'm a pretty good driver. I haven't gotten into an accident or anything, and i'm a girl. Then again, I don't put on make up when i'm driving (because I never wear any. :) )
i guess i learned from my mother, although her way of teaching me was basically giving me the keys and making me navigate rush hour traffic on the freeway. somehow i survived and have had my license for over a year, i'd say her "instruction" or lack thereof wound up working pretty well
@John_of_the_bloomdocks@xanga - My point: stereotypes are wrong.
Apparently you think all women are incompetent just because a few women you know are not good drivers.
I could say a similar statement to yours; ALL men I know (save my father) drive too fast, turn too fast, park too fast, don't stop for pedestrians, race 20 miles over the speed limit to make lights, and can't parallel park.
maybe if we all just stopped for a moment we'd realize that EVERYBODY seems to suck at driving (save my father. hahaha).
a friend taught me how to drive manual.
i taught myself how to drive automatic.
i taught myself how to drive. its a pretty simple thing to do. i know both men and women who suck at driving. i don't think gender has anything to do with it, its just a stereotype that will go on forever cuz people are too ignorant and stubborn to see things from both sides.
Umm...yeah you just need better female driving friends.
I come from a family of all females, and I never had a problem with them teaching me to drive. I have seen both sexes with crappy driving skills which is what it boils down to. If your driving skills suck it doesn't matter if your male or female.
I do admit that men are sometimes more laxed when it comes to teaching. I had a guy teach me by letting me drive his truck solo in a graveyard while he watched from the sideline.......he figured the people were already dead so I couldn't do anymore harm.
just FYI 0 headstones hit, 0 people killed 1 stuck tire, but I mario andretti'ed my way out of that =)
The only thing that has happened to my car has not been my fault. All of my friends think I drive well, even the guy friends. I don't go under the speed limit, I don't do stupid shit that will get me hit, and I respect the other drivers.
I think that it is not just women and old people who suck at driving. It is 90% of the people out there. People talk on their phones, they don't use their signals [seriously how hard is it to hit a freaking switch?], and they just do things with out thinking.
There is nothing wrong with learning how to drive from a woman if she isn't one of the 90% of bad drivers. Just because your girlfriend is a shitty driver doesn't mean MOST women are.
I am a good driver so hah!
There are women in Nascar, a driver is a driver. If anything, don't get driving lessons from an Asian. Just Kidding. Kidding. OK, was a joke.
I learned from my Dad. Yeah, and as a woman, never take driving advice from us. I absolutely hate driving.
Lol. XD
My dad is teaching me to drive; he's the one who is in the car with me and he's the one who gets flustered at me (i am allowed to go on some solo trips as of now though. =) My mom just gives me some pointers every now and then.
Yeah, i kind of am a bad driver. But the thing is, i can be the most careful and awesome driver in the world - i just choose to drive somewhat recklessly (while still exercising a good amount of control) because it makes driving a bit more fun. I'm good with reaction time though and in no way do i attempt to put anyone else in danger. My parents are both awesome drivers, who have never had accidents (excluding one or 2 freak fender benders that were the other party's fault.
........I <3 driving!!! x3
