Shaving For The First Time With My Dad
When I was around 14, I looked in the mirror one day and noticed that I have facial hair...and it was scruffy, and it didn't look good.
One day, my mom asked me, "When are you going to shave that off?" I told her I didn't know how because Dad hadn't taught me how to shave.
For a couple of months, I lived with the gross facial hair clinging to my chin and upper lip until my mom finally got fed up, and in the presence of my dad, she once again asked me, "When are you going to shave that off?"
I, realizing what she was going for in this situation, said, "as soon as dad teaches me to shave." He kind of laughed it off and told a story of how he learned to shave by watching his older brothers shave and by trying it himself. I quickly reminded him that I was the oldest child and that I had no brothers.
So, that day my mom bought me a nice razor and some shaving gel and instructed me to have my dad teach me how to rid my face of the unsightly scruff that I was growing.
Eventually, there was an evening when my mom and sisters were out of the house and I finally got my dad to give me a tutorial on the workings of a razor and shaving cream.
Now, I probably could have figured everything out myself, but I think part of me really wanted to have that bonding experience with my dad, and for some reason, he was shirking it. But it was important to me, and eventually he got the hints to lead me through (what I feel) is a certain right of passage for every young man.
At what age did you first learn how to shave? Did you dad give you any pointers?

I was shaving at 3, and all my dad said was, "Here, here's your razor. Have at it."
I dont remember exactly when I started shaving, but my dad never gave me any pointers.
hmm when i was 8 we had a cat named santos ...heh late one December eve it took bout an hour but managed to shave most of it..course then i had to be rushed to the ER on account of santos claws... heh lol nah... dimly remember a stepafther's cuple pointers and do wish it could have been a bonding thing...
Haha. If you watched enough movies about guys shaving with a giant knife you'd just know.
I just do it.
unfortunately had i listened, i would be much more adept...
pa takes (2) minutes... i take (12). also, much more efficient, silent, swift, stylish when observing. i suppose this is why father to son to son to son to son.... rofff, to each man his way.
Since my parents got a divorce and my mother did not allow us to see our Dad, I taught my brother (one year my junior) how to shave. I thought if shaving legs was not difficult than a face should not be too hard! It was a nice brother-sister bonding moment. (:
I was in JROTC and had never shaved before because i didn't really have any facial hair but one day while we were in uniform about to do a parade they lined up all the guys that needed to shave, put each in front of us in front of a sink, and gave us a razor but no shaving cream.
My dad sorta taught me how to shave. But not really. I just used his electric shaver. It was not a close enough shave. I proceeded to order a free razor from slickdeals and taught myself how to shave. I love my soft face with no stubble at all lol
Never. Not even told me about the whole puberty thing -_-
I. was. very. shocked. when. one. morning. I. woke. up. with. something. more. than. just. deeper. voice. D:
Later on.. I figured it all out myself.
@TheSpaceBass@xanga - hahaha cute.
I used to watch my dad and brother shave and would ask them about it. One day when I needed a shaving, I just got a razor and shaved next to my dad. Good times.
i started with an electric razor, so no tutorial was necessary.
I didn't start growing facial hair till I was maybe 19? It's still light so I rarely have to shave.
Never tried an electric razor before, usually just use a straightblade/razor.
No my dad didn't teach me either
@ysantoso@xanga - Loll what, your armpits and privates grew hair? or...something else grew?
Boy puberty's so easy. I can't imagine how many young girls wake up one morning and think they're bleeding to death.
What`s wrong with peach fuzz?
@gatorgirl54@xanga - ya those. -_-. coming from asian family, it's hard to get better understanding of the whole thing about human sexuality. so.. blahh
I liked my goatee when i was 14. It was kind of an in-thing. My dad wanted me to shave it but i kept it till i was in college.
He gave me his old fashioned 2-edged razor and a bit of a tutorial after seeing me wound myself a few times with it.
Haha. I'm 24 now and I still have that old razor but i don't use it anymore.
