Does Lebron James Deserve The NBA MVP?
Lebron James was anointed the MVP of the NBA yesterday. He's had an amazing season but many argue Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant had MVP caliber years as well.
After receiving the award, James went out and destroyed the Atlanta Hawks (99-72) in their first game of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
Is Lebron James deserving of this year's NBA regular season MVP? If he isn't, then who do you think deserved the trophy?

heck yeah he deserves it. he played hard and worked hard.
HELL YES!! He had an amazing season and definitely deserves it. Kobe and Wade both had great seasons too, but I think Lebron's was better. Every year there are 2 or 3 or even 4 or more players that have MVP worthy seasons, but it all comes down to the voters choice, and clearly this year more people though Lebron deserved it more than anyone else.
he is, deserving, the most dominant player on the most dominant team pretty much.
averages of 28, 7, 7 . thats pretty awesome.
The only othe rperson an arguement could be made for is kobe,
his averages dont measure up and he hasnt had enough to do with in comparison.
Not only no, but hell no.
The guy didn't even pay his dues at the college level like most of the NBA players have. I think that's a HUGE problem in pro sports. Most don't require their players to go to college, which is BS.
Require all athletes to use up their college eligibility and then bring them up, but not a day before. The guy's a good player, I don't deny that, but he should have had his priorities straight...what's he going to do if he gets injured or after he retires? Be a bum on the street?
That's why I think all athletes should be made to do the college thing before being allowed to go pro.
I'm not a huge Lebron fan myself, I'm an over the top celtics lover who truly believes that Rondo should have gotten the MVP. Those matters aside, Lebron is a GREAT player and the most dominant player on his team. I do argue that he doesn't work with his team as well as he should. This is evident on the court. The team Cavaliers arn't that amazing. I infact hate the Cavaliers. He is a great play- he just needs to work with other players.

In response to this, bullshit. If you an amazing enough player, as LeBron was- he doesn't need to go through College Basketball. It's a waste of talent. We need young, fresh players on the NBA teams here. If we have all these kids outta college that would get boring.
I don't believe education is a matter of "must have". Yes, some players may benefit from the college expierence but I don't think it would have helped LeBron.
And man.. If LeBron got hit. He stitting on buckets full of money.
He'd be fine.
@triedtoflyy@xanga - Not so much for the college basketball, but for the educational value. I believe in college for all, and would support compulsory college education, seriously. Uneducated idiots are what's preventing us from advancing as a society.
I don't give a crap how good of a player you are, you should go to college as should everyone else. I also can't stand these athletes who retire and don't do a goddamn thing. Get out there and be a productive member of society.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - Did you watch him in High school? His command and presence on the court were apparent even then. I don't think college could have prepared him any more or any better for an NBA Career.
And yes, he does deserve MVP. He played vital role in the Cavs organization.
Yes he deserves the MVP. I don't think it's even close.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - Your dumb. A MVP has nothing to do with whether or not they went to college. A trophy doesn't give a flip about what will happen if they get injured. Jesus.
@JMayden4@xanga - That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying he doesn't even deserve to be in the NBA because he never went to college. I think ALL athletes should have to play in college before going pro, no exceptions made for extraordinary talent.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - Seriously? You think athletes need an education? Alot of them cant even speak good english - And they dont need to.
@Uek@xanga - Yes, I think every American citizen needs an education (professional caliber athlete or not). We're an uneducated society (that's why 90% of Americans still believe in a deity), and we need to change that.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - well buddy i'll put it this way... many people in this country can't afford to go to college, so are you gonna pay for their education? didn't think so. and anyone who is good enough to play a professional sport should be allowed to do it with or without college. why do you care so much if people go to college or not? many people out there do just fine without a college education. and you're a douche.
@C_UNIT42@xanga - Umm...ever heard of federal aid? It's out there, all you have to do is ask for it. The affordability issue is an excuse.
Many people might do fine but they're still idiots. College educated people make more over the course of their lifetime on average, and are less likely to believe in a deity (which is a good thing because a deity does not exist).
Plus, my ultimate opinion of professional sports: we shouldn't have them. Bottom line. Why? Professional athletes are dicks who don't contribute to society. They're all about themselves and have a superiority complex that's just disgusting.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - what exactly makes someone an idiot? cuz i think you're an idiot for believing that people who don't go to college are idiots. my dad didn't go to college but he is one of the smartest men i know. and on top of that he is a very wealthy businessman who provides for his family and contributes a lot to the community. so give me a reason why he is an idiot.
and honestly it sounds like you're jealous of pro athletes too. apparently you don't know what you're talking about because many pro athletes have charities and contribute millions of dollars to their communities every year. i played football in h.s. with 5 different NFL players and every one of them is a great person who does a lot for the community and none of them have a superiority complex. of course there are exceptions, but judging a group based on a few people in it is ignorant, which is what you are doing. i'm sorry you suck at sports, get over it.
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - Woah, woah, woah. I totally disagree with the whole "Professional athletes are dicks who don't contribute to society" comment. There are plenty of athletes who give back to their own communities, or pay homage to where they came from.
From what I'm reading, you're overscrutnizing the question the post originally had. In that LeBron doesn't deserve MVP because he doesn't have a college education? Come on, dude.
"College educated people make more over the
course of their lifetime on average, and are less likely to believe in
a deity (which is a good thing because a deity does not exist)."
I'd like to know where you get these statistics, because it sure as hell isn't true. I know many college educated people who DO NOT make more over the course of their livetime...
And by college educated, are you talking about PhD? BS? BA? MD? What? There are plenty of "college educated" pepole who make considerably less than the numbers you offered to us.
And lastly, it seems as if you brought up an argument about educated Americans and the thought of them believing in a God (Deity, or whatever you prefer). Are you just an angry person who hates, or over criticize others because of their accomplishments without a college degree?
If so, you seriously need to chill out and realize that America isn't an uneducated society. I mean, judging by what you said, uneducated people = believes in a Deity.
You gave us 90%.
THEREFORE, based on your numbers, 90% of Americans are uneducated, believes in a Deity... and... well, according to you, don't have a college degree.
Which THEN makes them ineligible to earn status in areas where they excel.
*Laughs, lots of typos, sorry, it's late at night =p
@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - "pay his dues" is such a lame fraternal term. If someone is talented and hard working "paying dues" is ridiculous. He came right in from high school and is easily one of the greatest players in the NBA.... what does that say about all of the people who HAVE "payed their dues"?
This logic is what keeps "conscious rappers" from being given the respect they deserve, this kind of logic is what keeps SUPER TALENTED ARTISTS/POETS broke and unknown until after their death or near it, this kind of logic is what keeps the same old bitter power hungry politicians in control of our government instead of fresh air being breathed in by new ideas and new generations.
If he's talented he's talented, if he's dominating the league then so be it. Him not going to college doesn't make him any less of a baller. The award is just and fair.
...and saying if someone is smart then they won't believe there is a God just reveals your OWN intelligence... or lack thereof. So college teaches you there isn't a creator? What school did YOU go to and what did YOU major in to come to this conclusion?
Rabindranath Tagor, Bill gates, Steve Jobs, Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Craig McCracken, Eleanor Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway, Walter Cronkite... THE DEAN OF ADMISSIONS AT M.I.T.
... they either never WENT to college or dropped out, and these are just the few i found amusing of a giant list.

@abilene_piper_lg@xanga - College is definitely not for everyone. It is unfair for you to say that people who don't go to college are "idiots". Some of the wisest people I know have never had a college education, and some of the dumbest people I know have had a college education. I am currently in college. Some people here have no reason they should be here. They are going to get their degrees and get a crap job because they are just plain dumb. I, personally, believe education is extremely important. Education is not essential to have a successful life.
