Susan Boyle Hysteria - Why?
American Idol does a lot of things, most of which includes giving me headaches and the occasional sense that a man is invading my butt whenever Ryan Seacrest speaks. As much as I enjoy watching an angry Brit with no musical talent dump on people with negative musical talent, or witnessing some coked out dipshit find reasons to like everyone's performance, or just watching a fat black guy be fat and black...wait no, this show is fucking retarded on every level.
Britain’s Got Talent, essentially the same horse shit with a little fish and chips sprinkled on top, recently had a contestant who, if I've understood correctly, surprised the fuck out of the entire universe. When I first watched the Susan Boyle video on YouTube, Advil in hand, I realized a couple of things about humanity; mainly that the 2012 apocalypse can't come soon enough.
It's understandable for people to be surprised that a middle aged woman has never been kissed, let alone been on the receiving end of a Dirty Sanchez. It's understandable for people to laugh when the same woman looks like the Betty Crocker edition of Robert Pattinson.
But why the hell was anyone surprised that this woman can sing? One of today's most powerful singers is completely blind, one of history's most famous composers completed genius works even after he went deaf, and even Madonna has a long term disability (her face).
And now people are shitting their pants that a middle-aged frump with a longstanding case of blue balls can belt out a tune?
Anyone else wonder why a woman being able to sing well at a competition for singers is even news?

I can't help but to laugh at that last part about Madonna...
She is amazing. Nothing short of it, too.
I think it's just about the idea that ugly people can't do anything, you know? She's not exactly beautiful, obviously - on the outside. On the inside, though, that's clearly not the case, and that contrast is what the media is hyping about... And I think inner beauty is a good thing to be obsessed about.
Because she's ugly.
I agree that the hype is too much-but she has an amazing voice. I must've watched that Youtube vid like 10 times because I love the way she sings.
I heard that the "never-been-kissed" thing was actually fake...Yahoo had an article on it like 2 or 3 days ago.

Im not exactly a fan of susan boyle...though, its just because she doesnt sing the kind of music im "into"...However, I think she CAN sing, but whats made her popular ISNT that she can sing persay...its that, NO ONE believed she could. everyone was against her, and in the end...Every single person WATCHING the tv show, and every single person IN that "auditorium" Owed her an apology. Every one of them were JERKS. They OWED the "stardom" to her.
she's really not that great. she can sing ok, but i wouldn't say she's amazing. the shock is gone, the hype is over, we know you're ugly and that you can sing, good for you.
actually it mostly has to do with the fact that our own lives are boring. first of all, we like to hear about these underdog stories, or unexpected miracles or whatever. second of all, we are generally dissatisfied with our own lives and like to live vicariously through other people, be they Susan Boyle or Britney Spears or whoever. She is especially noticed because she gives regular boring old people hope that they can be something great.
I think it's because when she walked out on stage, everyone was laughing and some even booing because they thought, "she doesn't look good, so she will obviously suck."
And when she was singing, she had an amazing voice and surprised everyone.. Pwnd.
I really didn't find it amazing at all. There are armies of church singers in the UK just like her.
Because society thinks "ugly" people shouldn't have talents.
Who knows, but maybe because people have the tendency to associate "ugliness" with "worthlessness"? Usually what is "beautiful" is "good" and since she wasn't beautiful, people just sort of assumed she wasn't very good (at singing).

she sounded good but yeah i think its because people think all singers have to look like barbie dolls. Thats how you sell stupidity to america.

I think you are asking the wrong question: The question is why are so many record companies focused on beautiful cute singers so much (not to mention the ones that sing like they get paid by the cliche and syllable), that Simon Cowell even has a right to get surprised that Susn can sing? Another question is how come all of the American Idol winners have to be marketable to the point where,...yes, Simon Cowell is surprised that the one who can sing doe not look as marketable as the winners he picks on his last show?
Yes, she has talent, but I am stating to think the judges wouldn't know talent or substance in music, if they heard a record full of a million worthy and willing haters screaming and singing Beyonce-style, "YOU SUCK BALLS!!"

It's really simple. It's cause she doesn't care about her looks. She wore the same outfit in Britain's Got Talent as she did on an American TV show afterwards.

I think it's because her aspiration was to be a singer and everyone, based on her looks, thought yeah right! Then she sang and then everyone thought, OMG, this lady can sing! Maybe she can be a singer!

It's because she's so damn ugly. People feel inherent guilt and pity for the fuglies, and so they try to give them sympathy whenever they can to feel good about themselves. If you heard the song blindfolded, you wouldn't think it was that great. Judging someone by their appearance whether it's because they are hot or horrendous is still judging. It's a double standard to hate hot people, but root for the troll since both stances are based on looks.
Oh, btw, she has been kissed before. That was a little lie she told to pander for more sympathy votes. So she's ugly and a liar.
it's because her looks are jokey and therefore, her singing must be jokey but when it's not...MEDIA APOCOLYPSE :)
